Numbers 33:50 - 34:15
33:50 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses on the desert-plateau of Moab by the Jordan across Jericho, saying,
33:51 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them, ‘When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
33:52 you will drive out the inhabitants of the land from your presence, and you will destroy all their idols and all the images of their molten idols, and you will demolish all their high places;
33:53 you will dispossess the land and live in it because I have given the land to you to possess it.
33:54 You will distribute the land by lot according to your clans; to the larger group you will give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller group you will give less inheritance. However the lot falls for him, there the lot will be. You will distribute it according to the tribes of your ancestors.
33:55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from your presence, then it will happen that whomever you let remain of them will be like irritants in your eyes and like thorns in your sides; they will be your enemies in the land in which you live.
33:56 And just as I planned to do to them, I will do to you.’”
34:1 The Land of Canaan Is Divided
Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
34:2 “Command the Israelites and say to them, ‘When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that was allotted to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan according to its boundaries.
34:3 Your southern edge will be from the desert of Zin toward the side of Edom, and your southern border will be from the end of the Salt Sea to the east;
34:4 your boundary will turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim and will pass over to Zin, and its limits will be from the south of Kadesh Barnea; it will continue to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon.
34:5 The boundary will turn from Azmon to the valley of Egypt, and its limits will be to the sea.
34:6 “‘Your western boundary will be the Great Sea; this will be your western boundary.
34:7 Your northern border will be from the Great Sea; you will make a boundary from the Great Sea to Mount Hor.
34:8 From Mount Hor you will make a boundary to reach Hamath; the limits of the territory will be at Zedad.
34:9 The boundary will go out to Ziphron, and its limits will be at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary to the north.
34:10 “‘You will mark out your eastern boundary from Hazar Enan to Shepham;
34:11 the boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah from the east side of Ain, and the boundary will go down and border on the eastern side of the Sea of Kinnereth.
34:12 The boundary will go down to the Jordan, and its limits will be at the Salt Sea. This will be your land according to its boundaries all around.’”
34:13 So Moses commanded the Israelites, saying, “This is the land that you will obtain as an inheritance for yourself by lot, which Yahweh commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes.
34:14 For the tribe of the children of the Reubenites, the children of the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh took their inheritance according to the house of their families.
34:15 The two and a half tribes have taken their inheritance from beyond the Jordan across Jericho, east toward the sunrise.”
NIRV translation
Numbers 33:50 - 34:15
33:50 On the flatlands of Moab the Lord spoke to Moses. He spoke to him by the Jordan River across from Jericho. The Lord said,
33:51 “Speak to the people of Israel. Tell them, ‘Go across the Jordan River into Canaan.
33:52 Drive out all those who are living in the land. The statues of their gods are made out of stone and metal. Destroy all of those statues. And destroy all of the high places where they are worshiped.
33:53 “‘Take the land as your own. Settle down in it. I have given it to you.
33:54 Use lots when you give out the land. Do it based on the number of men who are in each tribe and family. Give a larger share to a larger group. And give a smaller group a smaller share. The share they receive by using lots will belong to them. Give out the shares based on the number of men in Israel’s tribes.
33:55 “‘But suppose you do not drive out the people who are living in the land. Then those you allow to remain there will become like needles in your eyes. They will become like thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live.
33:56 Then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.’”
34:1 Israel Arrives at the Borders of Canaan
The Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
34:2 “Give the people of Israel a command. Tell them, ‘You are going to enter Canaan. The land will be given to you as your own. Here are the borders it will have.
34:3 “‘Your southern border will include some of the Desert of Zin. It will be along the border of Edom. On the east, your southern border will start from the end of the Dead Sea.
34:4 It will cross south of Scorpion Pass. It will continue on to Zin. From there it will go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon.
34:5 There it will turn and join the Wadi of Egypt. It will come to an end at the Mediterranean Sea.
34:6 “‘Your western border will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. That will be your border on the west.
34:7 “‘For your northern border, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor.
34:8 Continue it from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the border will go to Zedad.
34:9 It will continue to Ziphron. It will come to an end at Hazar Enan. That will be your border on the north.
34:10 “‘For your eastern border, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham.
34:11 The border will go down from Shepham to Riblah. Riblah is on the east side of Ain. From there the border will continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee.
34:12 Then the border will go down along the Jordan River. It will come to an end at the Dead Sea.
“‘That will be your land. And those will be its borders on every side.’”
34:13 Moses gave the people of Israel a command. He said, “Use lots when you give out the land. Each tribe will have its own share. The Lord has ordered it to be given to the nine and a half tribes.
34:14 “The families of the tribes of Reuben and Gad have already received their shares. The families of half of the tribe of Manasseh have also received their share.
34:15 Those two and a half tribes have received their shares east of the Jordan River. It flows near Jericho. Their land is toward the sunrise.”

Gospel — Luke 24:13-35
LEB translation
Luke 24:13-35
24:13 Jesus Encountered on the Road to Emmaus
And behold, on that same day, two of them were traveling to a village named Emmaus that was sixty stadia distant from Jerusalem,
24:14 and they were conversing with one another about all these things that had happened.
24:15 And it happened that while they were conversing, and discussing, Jesus himself also approached and began to go along with them,
24:16 but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.
24:17 And he said to them, “What are these matters that you are discussing with one another as you are walking along?” And they stood still, looking sad.
24:18 And one of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to him, “Are you the only one living near Jerusalem and not knowing the things that have happened in it in these days?”
24:19 And he said to them, “What things?” So they said to him, “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, a man who was a prophet, powerful in deed and word before God and all the people,
24:20 and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to a sentence of death, and crucified him.
24:21 But we were hoping that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. But in addition to all these things, this is the third day since these things took place.
24:22 But also some women from among us astonished us, who were at the tomb early in the morning,
24:23 and when they did not find his body, they came back saying they had seen even a vision of angels, who said that he was alive!
24:24 And some of those with us went out to the tomb and found it like this, just as the women had also said, but him they did not see.”
24:25 And he said to them, “O foolish and slow in heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
24:26 Was it not necessary that the Christ suffer these things and enter into his glory?”
24:27 And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.
24:28 And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he acted as though he was going farther.
24:29 And they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening, and by this time the day is far spent.” And he went in to stay with them.
24:30 And it happened that when he reclined at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks, and after breaking it, he gave it to them.
24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he became invisible to them.
24:32 And they said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was speaking with us on the road, while he was explaining the scriptures to us?”
24:33 And they got up that same hour and returned to Jerusalem and found the eleven and those with them assembled,
24:34 saying, “The Lord has really been raised, and has appeared to Simon!”
24:35 And they began describing what happened on the road, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.
NIRV translation
Luke 24:13-35
24:13 On the Road to Emmaus
That same day two of Jesus’ followers were going to a village called Emmaus. It was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
24:14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.
24:15 As they talked about those things, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them.
24:16 But God kept them from recognizing him.
24:17 Jesus asked them, “What are you talking about as you walk along?”
They stood still, and their faces were sad.
24:18 One of them was named Cleopas. He said to Jesus, “You must be a visitor to Jerusalem. If you lived there, you would know the things that have happened there in the last few days.”
24:19 “What things?” Jesus asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet. He was powerful in what he said and did in the eyes of God and all of the people.
24:20 The chief priests and our rulers handed Jesus over to be sentenced to death. They nailed him to a cross.
24:21 But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to set Israel free. Also, it is the third day since all this happened.
24:22 “Some of our women amazed us too. Early this morning they went to the tomb.
24:23 But they didn’t find his body. So they came and told us what they had seen. They saw angels, who said Jesus was alive.
24:24 Then some of our friends went to the tomb. They saw it was empty, just as the women had said. They didn’t see Jesus’ body there.”
24:25 Jesus said to them, “How foolish you are! How long it takes you to believe all that the prophets said!
24:26 Didn’t the Christ have to suffer these things and then receive his glory?”
24:27 Jesus explained to them what was said about himself in all the Scriptures. He began with Moses and all the Prophets.
24:28 The two men approached the village where they were going. Jesus acted as if he were going farther.
24:29 But they tried hard to keep him from leaving. They said, “Stay with us. It is nearly evening. The day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
24:30 He joined them at the table. Then he took bread and gave thanks. He broke it and began to give it to them.
24:31 Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. But then he disappeared from their sight.
24:32 They said to each other, “He talked with us on the road. He opened the Scriptures to us. Weren’t our hearts burning inside us during that time?”
24:33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them. They were all gathered together.
24:34 They were saying, “It’s true! The Lord has risen! He has appeared to Simon!”
24:35 Then the two of them told what had happened to them on the way. They told how they had recognized Jesus when he broke the bread.
