Passages

Torah — Leviticus 8:30 - 8:36

LEB translation

8:30 Anointing the Priests and Their Garments Then Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar, and he spattered them on Aaron, on his garments, and on Aaron’s sons and on his sons’ garments with him—thus he consecrated Aaron, his garments, and his sons and his sons’ garments with him.
8:31 Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, “Boil the meat in the entrance to the tent of assembly, and there you must eat it and the bread that is in the basket of the consecration offering, just as I have commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons must eat it,’
8:32 but the remainder of the meat and the bread you must burn in the fire.
8:33 And you must not go out from the entrance to the tent of assembly for seven days, until the day of fulfilling the days of your consecration, because it will take seven days to ordain you.
8:34 Just as was done on this day, Yahweh commanded to be done in order to make atonement for you.
8:35 And you must stay at the entrance to the tent of assembly day and night for seven days, and you shall keep the obligation from Yahweh, so you might not die, for thus I have been commanded.”
8:36 So Aaron and his sons did all the things that Yahweh had commanded through Moses.

Gospel — Matthew 10:1-10:25

LEB translation

10:1 The Twelve Commissioned and Sent Out And summoning his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they could expel them and could heal every disease and every sickness.
10:2 Now these are the names of the twelve apostles: first Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,
10:3 Philip, and Bartholomew, Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector, James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus,
10:4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot—the one who also betrayed him.
10:5 Jesus sent out these twelve, instructing them saying, “Do not go on the road to the Gentiles, and do not enter into a city of the Samaritans,
10:6 but go instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
10:7 And as you are going, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near!’
10:8 Heal those who are sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, expel demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
10:9 Do not procure gold or silver or copper for your belts.
10:10 Do not take a traveler’s bag for the road, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff, for the worker is deserving of his provisions.
10:11 And into whatever town or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there until you depart.
10:12 And when you enter into the house, greet it.
10:13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
10:14 And whoever does not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you are going out of that house or that town.
10:15 Truly I say to you, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town!
10:16 Persecution of Disciples Predicted “Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
10:17 But beware of people, because they will hand you over to councils, and they will flog you in their synagogues.
10:18 And you will be brought before both governors and kings because of me, for a witness to them and to the Gentiles.
10:19 But whenever they hand you over, do not be anxious how to speak or what you should say, for what you should say will be given to you at that hour.
10:20 For you are not the ones who are speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who is speaking through you.
10:21 “And brother will hand over brother to death, and a father his children, and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death,
10:22 and you will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end—this one will be saved.
10:23 And whenever they persecute you in this town, flee to another, for truly I say to you, you will never finish going through the towns of Israel until the Son of Man comes.
10:24 “A disciple is not superior to his teacher, nor a slave superior to his master.
10:25 It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household?
