Genesis 43:30 - 44:17
43:30 Then Joseph hurried away, being overcome with emotion toward his brother, and sought for a place to cry. Then he went into a room and wept there.
43:31 Then he washed his face and went out, now controlling himself, and said, “Serve the food.”
43:32 And they served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who were eating with him by themselves, for Egyptians could not dine with Hebrews, because that was a detestable thing to Egyptians.
43:33 And they were seated before him from the firstborn according to his birthright to the youngest according to his youth. And the men looked at one another amazed.
43:34 And portions were served to them from his table, and the portion of Benjamin was five times greater than the portion of any of them. And they drank and became drunk with him.
44:1 Joseph Tests His Brothers
Then he commanded the one who was over his household, saying, “Fill the sacks of the men with food as much as they are able to carry, and put each one’s money in the mouth of his sack.
44:2 And my cup—the cup of silver—you shall put into the mouth of the sack of the youngest, and the money for his grain. And he did according to the word of Joseph that he had commanded.
44:3 When the morning light came the men were sent away, they and their donkeys.
44:4 They went out of the city, and had not gone far when Joseph said to the one who was over his house, “Arise! Pursue after the men and overtake them. Then you shall say to them, ‘Why have you repaid evil for good?
44:5 Is this not that from which my master drinks? Now he himself certainly practices divination with it. You have done evil in what you have done.’”
44:6 When he overtook them he spoke these words to them.
44:7 And they said to him, “Why has my lord spoken according to these words? Far be it from your servants to do such a thing!
44:8 Behold, the money that we found in the mouth of our sacks we returned to you from the land of Canaan. Now why would we steal silver or gold from the house of my lord?
44:9 Whoever is found with it from among your servants shall die. And moreover, we will become slaves to my lord.”
44:10 Then he said, “Now also according to your words, thus will it be. He who is found with it shall be my slave, but you shall be innocent.”
44:11 Then each man quickly brought down his sack to the ground, and each one opened his sack.
44:12 And he searched, beginning with the oldest and finishing with the youngest. And the cup was found in the sack of Benjamin.
44:13 Then they tore their clothes, and each one loaded his donkey and they returned to the city.
44:14 And Judah and his brothers came to the house of Joseph—now he was still there—they fell before him to the ground.
44:15 Then Joseph said to them, “What is this deed that you have done? Did you not know that a man who is like me surely practices divination?”
44:16 And Judah said, “What can we say to my lord? What can we speak? Now how can we show ourselves innocent? God has found the guilt of your servants! Behold, we are slaves to my lord, both we and also he in whose hand the cup was found.”
44:17 But he said, “Far be it from me to do this! The man in whose hand the cup was found, he will become my slave. But as for you, go up in peace to your father.”
NIRV translation
Genesis 43:30 - 44:17
43:30 It moved him deeply to see his brother. So Joseph hurried out and looked for a place to cry. He went into his own room and cried there.
43:31 Then he washed his face and came out. He calmed down and said, “Serve the food.”
43:32 They served Joseph by himself. They served the brothers by themselves. They also served the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves. Because of their beliefs, Egyptians couldn’t eat with Hebrews.
43:33 The brothers had been given places in front of Joseph. They had been seated in the order of their ages, from the oldest to the youngest. That made them look at each other in great surprise.
43:34 While they were eating, some food was brought to them from Joseph’s table. Benjamin was given five times as much as anyone else. So all of Joseph’s brothers ate and drank a lot with him.
44:1 A Silver Cup in a Sack
Joseph told the manager of his house what to do. “Fill the men’s sacks with as much food as they can carry,” he said. “Put each man’s money in his sack.
44:2 “Then put my silver cup in the youngest one’s sack. Put it there along with the money he paid for his grain.” So the manager did what Joseph told him to do.
44:3 When morning came, the men were sent on their way with their donkeys.
44:4 They hadn’t gone very far from the city when Joseph spoke to his manager. “Go after those men at once,” he said. “Catch up with them. Say to them, ‘My master was good to you. Why have you paid him back by doing evil?
44:5 Isn’t this the cup my master drinks from? Doesn’t he also use it to figure things out? You have done an evil thing.’”
44:6 When the manager caught up with them, he told them what Joseph had said.
44:7 But they said to him, “Why do you say these things? We would never do anything like that!
44:8 We even brought back to you from Canaan the money we found in our sacks. So why would we steal silver or gold from your master’s house?
44:9 “If you find out that any of us has the cup, he will die. And the rest of us will become your slaves.”
44:10 “All right, then,” he said. “As you wish. The one who is found to have the cup will become my slave. But the rest of you will be free from blame.”
44:11 Each of them quickly put his sack down on the ground and opened it.
44:12 Then the manager started to search. He began with the oldest and ended with the youngest. The cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.
44:13 When that happened, they were so upset they tore their clothes. Then all of them loaded their donkeys and went back to the city.
44:14 Joseph was still in the house when Judah and his brothers came in. They threw themselves down on the ground in front of him.
44:15 Joseph said to them, “What have you done? Don’t you know that a man like me has ways to figure things out?”
44:16 “What can we say to you?” Judah replied. “What can we say? How can we prove we haven’t done anything wrong? God has shown you that we are guilty. We are now your slaves. All of us are, including the one who was found to have the cup.”
44:17 But Joseph said, “I would never do anything like that! Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my slave. The rest of you may go back to your father in peace.”

Gospel — John 17:9 - 19
LEB translation
John 17:9 - 19
17:9 I am asking on behalf of them. I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you have given me, because they are yours,
17:10 and all my things are yours, and your things are mine, and I have been glorified in them.
17:11 And I am no longer in the world, and they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given to me, so that they may be one, just as we are.
17:12 When I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given to me, and guarded them, and none of them has perished except the son of destruction, in order that the scripture would be fulfilled.
17:13 And now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in themselves.
17:14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world.
17:15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one.
17:16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
17:17 Sanctify them in the truth—your word is truth.
17:18 Just as you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
17:19 And for them I sanctify myself, so that they themselves also may be sanctified in the truth.
NIRV translation
John 17:9 - 19
17:9 “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world. I am praying for those you have given me, because they are yours.
17:10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. Glory has come to me because of my disciples.
17:11 “I will not remain in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name. It is the name you gave me. Keep them safe so they can be one, just as you and I are one.
17:12 “While I was with them, I guarded them. I kept them safe through the name you gave me. None of them has been lost, except the one who was sentenced to be destroyed. It happened so that Scripture would come true.
17:13 “I am coming to you now. But I say these things while I am still in the world. I say them so that those you gave me can have all my joy inside them.
17:14 I have given them your word. The world has hated them. This is because they are not part of the world any more than I am.
17:15 I do not pray that you will take them out of the world. I pray that you will keep them safe from the evil one.
17:16 “They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to it.
17:17 Use the truth to make them holy. Your word is truth.
17:18 You sent me into the world. In the same way, I have sent them into the world.
17:19 I make myself holy for them so that they too can be made holy in a true sense.
