Numbers 8:1 - 8:14
8:1 The Seven Lamps
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
8:2 “Speak to Aaron, and say to him: ‘When you are setting up the lamps, the seven lamps will give light in front of the face of the lampstand.’”
8:3 And Aaron did so; he set up the lampstand in front of the face of its lamps, just as Yahweh commanded Moses.
8:4 And this is how the lampstand was made, a hammered-work of gold; from its base up to its blossom, it was hammered-work according to the pattern that Yahweh showed Moses; so he made the lampstand.
8:5 Moses Consecrates the Levites
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
8:6 “Take the Levites from the midst of the Israelites and purify them.
8:7 So you will do to them, to purify them: sprinkle on them waters of purification, and they will shave their whole body and wash their garments.
8:8 And they will take a young bull and its grain offering of finely milled flour mixed with oil, and you will take a second young bull as a sin offering.
8:9 You will bring the Levites before the tent of assembly, and you will summon the entire community of the Israelites.
8:10 And you will bring the Levites before Yahweh, and the Israelites will lay their hands on the Levites,
8:11 and Aaron will offer the Levites as a wave offering before Yahweh from the Israelites, and they will do the work of Yahweh.
8:12 And the Levites will lay their hands on the head of the one bull and offer it as a sin offering and the other one as a burnt offering to Yahweh, to make atonement for the Levites.
8:13 And you will present the Levites before Aaron and before his sons, and he will offer them as a wave offering to Yahweh.
8:14 “And you will separate the Levites from the midst of the Israelites, and the Levites will be for me.

Numbers 8:1 - 8:14
8:1 Aaron Sets Up the Lamps
The Lord said to Moses,
8:2 “Speak to Aaron. Say to him, ‘Set up the seven lamps. They will give light to the area that is in front of the lampstand.’”
8:3 So Aaron did it. He set up the lamps so that they faced forward on the lampstand. He did just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
8:4 The lampstand was made out of hammered gold. From its base to its blooms it was made out of hammered gold. The lampstand was made exactly like the pattern the Lord had shown Moses.
8:5 Moses Sets the Levites Apart
The Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
8:6 “Take the Levites from among the other men of Israel. Make them ‘clean’ in the usual way.
8:7 Here is how to make them pure. Sprinkle the special water on them. Then have them shave their whole bodies. Also have them wash their clothes. That is how they will make themselves pure.
8:8 “Have them get a young bull along with its grain offering. The offering must be made out of fine flour mixed with olive oil. Then you must get a second young bull. You must sacrifice it as a sin offering.
8:9 “Bring the Levites to the front of the Tent of Meeting. Gather the whole community of Israel together.
8:10 You must bring the Levites to me. The men of Israel must place their hands on them.
8:11 Aaron must bring the Levites to me. They are a wave offering from the people of Israel. That is how they will be set apart to do my work.
8:12 “I want the Levites to place their hands on the heads of the bulls. Then they must sacrifice one bull as a sin offering to me. And they must sacrifice the other as a burnt offering. The blood of the bulls will pay for the sin of the Levites.
8:13 “Have the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons. Then give them as a wave offering to me.
8:14 That is how I want you to set the Levites apart from the other men of Israel. The Levites will belong to me.

Gospel — Luke 8:22-56
LEB translation
Luke 8:22-56
8:22 Calming of a Storm
Now it happened that on one of the days both he and his disciples got into a boat, and he said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they set sail,
8:23 and as they were sailing, he fell asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were being swamped and were in danger.
8:24 And they came and woke him up, saying, “Master, master! We are perishing!” So he got up and rebuked the wind and the billowing waves of water and they ceased, and it became calm.
8:25 And he said to them, “Where is your faith?” But they were afraid and were astonished, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water and they obey him?”
8:26 A Demon-possessed Gerasene Healed
And they sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.
8:27 And as he got out on the land, a certain man from the town met him who had demons and for a considerable time had not worn clothes and did not live in a house, but among the tombs.
8:28 And when he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What do I have to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!”
8:29 For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For it had seized him many times, and he was bound with chains and shackles and was guarded, and breaking the bonds he would be driven by the demon into the deserted places.)
8:30 So Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered into him.
8:31 And they began imploring him that he would not order them to depart into the abyss.
8:32 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the hill, and they implored him that he would permit them to enter into those pigs. And he permitted them.
8:33 So the demons came out of the man and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the lake and were drowned.
8:34 And when the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and reported it in the town and in the countryside.
8:35 So they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting there clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid.
8:36 And those who had seen it reported to them how the man who had been demon-possessed had been healed.
8:37 And all the people of the surrounding region of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, because they had been seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned.
8:38 And the man from who the demons had gone out was begging him to stay with him, but he sent him away, saying,
8:39 “Return to your home and tell all that God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole town all that Jesus had done for him.
8:40 A Woman Healed and a Daughter Raised
Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, because they were all waiting for him.
8:41 And behold, a man who was named Jairus came, and this man was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at the feet of Jesus and began imploring him to come to his house,
8:42 because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying.
Now as he was going, the crowds were pressing against him.
8:43 And a woman who was suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years (who, although she had spent all her assets on physicians, was not able to be healed by anyone)
8:44 came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her hemorrhaging stopped.
8:45 And Jesus said, “Who is the one who touched me?” And when they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds are pressing you hard and crowding you!”
8:46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, because I know power has gone out from me.”
8:47 And when the woman saw that she did not escape notice, she came trembling and falling down before him. In the presence of all the people, she told for what reason she had touched him, and that she was healed immediately.
8:48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
8:49 While he was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue ruler’s house, saying, “Your daughter is dead! Trouble the Teacher no longer!”
8:50 But Jesus, when he heard this, replied to him, “Do not be afraid! Only believe, and she will be healed.”
8:51 Now when he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him except Peter and John and James and the father and mother of the child.
8:52 And they were all weeping and mourning for her, but he said, “Do not weep! For she is not dead, but is sleeping.”
8:53 And they began laughing at him, because they knew that she was dead.
8:54 But he took her hand and called, saying, “Child, get up.”
8:55 And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately, and he ordered something to be given to her to eat.
8:56 And her parents were astonished, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.

Luke 8:22-56
8:22 Jesus Calms the Storm
One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and left.
8:23 As they sailed, Jesus fell asleep. A storm came down on the lake. It was so bad that the boat was about to sink. They were in great danger.
8:24 The disciples went and woke Jesus up. They said, “Master! Master! We’re going to drown!”
He got up and ordered the wind and the huge waves to stop. The storm quieted down. It was completely calm.
8:25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
They were amazed and full of fear. They asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey him.”
8:26 Jesus Heals a Man Controlled by Demons
Jesus and his disciples sailed to the area of the Gerasenes across the lake from Galilee.
8:27 When Jesus stepped on shore, he was met by a man from the town. The man was controlled by demons. For a long time he had not worn clothes or lived in a house. He lived in the tombs.
8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet. He shouted at the top of his voice, “Jesus, Son of the Most High God, what do you want with me? I beg you, don’t hurt me!”
8:29 This was because Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times the spirit had taken hold of him. His hands and feet were chained, and he was kept under guard. But he had broken his chains. And then the demon had forced him to go out into lonely places in the countryside.
8:30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him.
8:31 And they begged Jesus again and again not to order them to go into the Abyss.
8:32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs. And he allowed it.
8:33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs. Then the herd rushed down the steep bank. They ran into the lake and drowned.
8:34 Those who were tending the pigs saw what had happened. They ran off and reported it in the town and countryside.
8:35 The people went out to see what had happened.
Then they came to Jesus. They found the man who was now free of the demons. He was sitting at Jesus’ feet. He was dressed and thinking clearly. All this made the people afraid.
8:36 Those who had seen it told the others how the man who had been controlled by demons was now healed.
8:37 Then all the people who lived in the area of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them. They were filled with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
8:38 The man who was now free of the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him away. He said to him,
8:39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.”
So the man went away. He told people all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
8:40 A Dying Girl and a Suffering Woman
When Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him. They were all expecting him.
8:41 Then a man named Jairus came. He was a synagogue ruler. He fell at Jesus’ feet. He begged Jesus to come to his house.
8:42 His only daughter was dying. She was about 12 years old.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him.
8:43 A woman was there who had a sickness that made her bleed. Her sickness had lasted for 12 years. No one could heal her.
8:44 She came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of his clothes. Right away her bleeding stopped.
8:45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
They all said they didn’t do it. Then Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pushing against you.”
8:46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me. I know that power has gone out from me.”
8:47 The woman realized that people would notice her. Shaking with fear, she came and fell at his feet. In front of everyone, she told why she had touched him. She also told how she had been healed in an instant.
8:48 Then he said to her, “Dear woman, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
8:49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus. Jairus was the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” the messenger said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
8:50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just believe. She will be healed.”
8:51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let everyone go in with him. He took only Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother.
8:52 During this time, all the people were crying and sobbing loudly over the child. “Stop crying!” Jesus said. “She is not dead. She is sleeping.”
8:53 They laughed at him. They knew she was dead.
8:54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”
8:55 Her spirit returned, and right away she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.
8:56 Her parents were amazed. But Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.
