Genesis 44:18 - 44:30
44:18 But Judah drew near to him and said, “Please my lord, let your servant speak a word in the ears of my lord, and let not your anger burn against your servant, for you are like Pharaoh himself.
44:19 My lord had asked his servants, saying, ‘Do you have a father or a brother?’
44:20 And we said to my lord, ‘We have an aged father, and a younger brother, the child of his old age, and his brother died, and he alone remains from his mother, and his father loves him.’
44:21 Then you said to your servants, ‘Bring him down to me that I may set my eyes upon him.’
44:22 Then we said to my lord, ‘The boy cannot leave his father; if he should leave his father, then he would die.’
44:23 Then you said to your servants, ‘Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you shall not again see my face.’
44:24 And it happened that we went up to your servant, my father, and told him the words of my lord.
44:25 And when our father said, ‘Buy a little food for us,’
44:26 then we said, ‘We cannot go down. If our youngest brother is with us, then we shall go down. For we will not be able to see the face of the man unless our youngest brother is with us.’
44:27 Then your servant, my father, said to us, ‘You yourselves know that my wife bore two sons to me.
44:28 One went out from me, and I said, “Surely he must have been torn to pieces,” and I have never seen him since.
44:29 And if you take this one also from me, and he encounters harm, you will bring down my gray head in sorrow to Sheol.’
44:30 So now, when I come to your servant, my father, and the boy is not with us—now his life is bound up with his life—
NIRV translation
Genesis 44:18 - 44:30
44:18 Then Judah went up to him. He said, “Please, sir. Let me speak a word to you. Don’t be angry with me, even though you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
44:19 You asked us, ‘Do you have a father or a brother?’
44:20 We answered, ‘We have an old father. A young son was born to him when he was old. His brother is dead. He’s the only one of his mother’s sons left. And his father loves him.’
44:21 “Then you said to us, ‘Bring him down to me. I want to see him for myself.’
44:22 “We said to you, ‘The boy can’t leave his father. If he does, his father will die.’
44:23 “But you told us, ‘Your youngest brother must come down here with you. If he doesn’t, you won’t see my face again.’
44:24 So we went back to my father. We told him what you had said.
44:25 “Then our father said, ‘Go back. Buy a little more food.’
44:26 “But we said, ‘We can’t go down. We’ll only go if our youngest brother goes there with us. We can’t even see the man’s face unless our youngest brother goes with us.’
44:27 “Your servant my father said to us, ‘You know that my wife had two sons by me.
44:28 One of them went away from me. And I said, “He must have been torn to pieces.” I haven’t seen him since.
44:29 What if you take this one from me too and he is harmed? Then you would cause me to die as a sad old man. I would go down into the grave full of pain and suffering.’
44:30 “So now, what will happen if the boy isn’t with us when I go back to my father? His life is closely tied up with the boy’s life.

Gospel — John 17:20 - 26
LEB translation
John 17:20 - 26
17:20 Jesus Prays for the Unity of Believers
“And I do not ask on behalf of these only, but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their word,
17:21 that they all may be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, that they also may be in us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me.
17:22 And the glory that you have given to me, I have given to them, in order that they may be one, just as we are one—
17:23 I in them, and you in me, in order that they may be completed in one, so that the world may know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me.
17:24 “Father, those whom you have given to me—I want that those also may be with me where I am, in order that they may see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
17:25 Righteous Father, although the world does not know you, yet I have known you, and these men have come to know that you sent me.
17:26 And I made known to them your name, and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I may be in them.”
NIRV translation
John 17:20 - 26
17:20 Jesus Prays for All Believers
“I do not pray only for them. I pray also for those who will believe in me because of their message.
17:21 Father, I pray that all of them will be one, just as you are in me and I am in you. I want them also to be in us. Then the world will believe that you have sent me.
17:22 “I have given them the glory you gave me. I did this so they would be one, just as we are one.
17:23 I will be in them, just as you are in me. I want them to be brought together perfectly as one. This will let the world know that you sent me. It will also show the world that you have loved those you gave me, just as you have loved me.
17:24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am. I want them to see my glory, the glory you have given me. You gave it to me because you loved me before the world was created.
17:25 “Father, you are holy. The world does not know you, but I know you. Those you have given me know you have sent me.
17:26 I have shown you to them. And I will continue to show you to them. Then the love you have for me will be in them. I myself will be in them.”
