28:15 “And then if you do not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God by diligently observing all of his commandments and his statutes that I am commanding you today, then all of these curses shall come upon you, and they shall overtake you:
28:16 “You shall be cursed in the city, and you shall be cursed in the field.
28:17 “Your basket shall be cursed and your kneading trough.
28:18 “The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock.
28:19 “You shall be cursed when you come in, and you shall be cursed when you go out.

28:15 More Curses for Not Obeying the Lord
But suppose you don’t obey the Lord your God. And you aren’t careful to follow all of his commands and rules I’m giving you today. Then he will send curses on you. They’ll catch up with you. Here are those curses.
28:16 You will be cursed in the cities. You will be cursed out in the country.
28:17 Your baskets and bread pans will be cursed.
28:18 Your children will be cursed. Your crops will be cursed. Your calves and lambs will be cursed.
28:19 You will be cursed no matter where you go.

16:25 The Conversion of the Philippian Jailer
Now about midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
16:26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened and all the bonds were unfastened.
16:27 And after the jailer was awake and saw the doors of the prison open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, because he thought the prisoners had escaped.
16:28 But Paul called out with a loud voice, saying, “Do no harm to yourself, for we are all here!”
16:29 And demanding lights, he rushed in and, beginning to tremble, fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas.
16:30 And he brought them outside and said, “Sirs, what must I do so that I can be saved?”
16:31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household!”
16:32 And they spoke the message of the Lord to him, together with all those in his house.
16:33 And he took them at that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and he himself was baptized at once, and all those of his household.
16:34 And he brought them up into his house and set a meal before them, and rejoiced greatly that he had believed in God with his whole household.
16:35 Paul and Silas Receive an Official Apology
And when it was day, the chief magistrates sent the police officers, saying, “Release those men.”
16:36 And the jailer reported these words to Paul: “The chief magistrates have sent an order that you should be released. So come out now and go in peace!”
16:37 But Paul said to them, “They beat us in public without due process—men who are Roman citizens—and threw us into prison, and now they are wanting to release us secretly? Certainly not! Rather let them come themselves and bring us out!”
16:38 So the police officers reported these words to the chief magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Roman citizens.
16:39 And they came and apologized to them, and after they brought them out they asked them to depart from the city.
16:40 And when they came out of the prison, they went to Lydia and when they saw them, they encouraged the brothers and departed.

16:26 Suddenly there was a powerful earthquake. It shook the prison from top to bottom. All at once the prison doors flew open. Everybody’s chains came loose.
16:27 The jailer woke up. He saw that the prison doors were open. He pulled out his sword and was going to kill himself. He thought the prisoners had escaped.
16:28 “Don’t harm yourself!” Paul shouted. “We are all here!”
16:29 The jailer called out for some lights. He rushed in, shaking with fear. He fell down in front of Paul and Silas.
16:30 Then he brought them out. He asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
16:31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus. Then you and your family will be saved.”
16:32 They spoke the word of the Lord to him. They also spoke to all the others in his house.
16:33 At that hour of the night, the jailer took Paul and Silas and washed their wounds. Right away he and his whole family were baptized.
16:34 The jailer brought them into his house. He set a meal in front of them. He and his whole family were filled with joy. They had become believers in God.
16:35 Early in the morning the judges sent their officers to the jailer. They ordered him, “Let those men go.”
16:36 The jailer told Paul, “The judges have ordered me to set you and Silas free. You can leave now. Go in peace.”
16:37 But Paul replied to the officers. “They beat us in public,” he said. “We weren’t given a trial. And we are Roman citizens! They threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and personally lead us out.”
16:38 The officers reported this to the judges. When the judges heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they became afraid.
16:39 So they came and said they were sorry. They led them out of the prison. Then they asked them to leave the city.
16:40 After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house. There they met with the believers. They told them to be brave. Then they left.
