Numbers 11:30 - 12:16
11:30 Then Moses and the elders of Israel were gathered to the camp.
11:31 The Quail
Then a wind set out from Yahweh, and it drove quails from the west, and he spread them out on the camp about a day’s journey on one side and about a day’s journey on the other, all around the camp, about two cubits on the surface of the land.
11:32 And so the people worked all day and all night and all the next day, and they gathered the quail (the least of the ones collecting gathered ten homers).
11:33 While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was consumed, Yahweh was angry with the people, and Yahweh struck a very great plague among the people.
11:34 And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah because they buried the people that were greedy.
11:35 From Kibroth Hattaavah the people set out to Hazeroth; and they stayed in Hazeroth.
12:1 Aaron and Miriam Murmur Against Moses
And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he took (because he took a Cushite wife);
12:2 and they said, “Has Yahweh spoken only through Moses? Has not Yahweh also spoken through us?” And Yahweh heard it.
12:3 Now the man, Moses, was more humble than any other person on the face of the earth,
12:4 and Yahweh said suddenly to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, “Go out, you three, to the tent of assembly.” So the three of them when out.
12:5 And Yahweh went down in a column of cloud and stood at the doorway of the tent, and he called Aaron and Miriam, and the two of them went,
12:6 and he said,
“Please hear my words:
If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh,
will make myself known to him in a vision.
I will speak to him in a dream.
12:7 Not so with my servant Moses;
in all my house he is faithful.
12:8 I will speak to him mouth to mouth,
in clearness, not in riddles;
and he will look at the form of Yahweh.
Why were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?”
12:9 And Yahweh became very angry with them, and he went away.
12:10 And the cloud departed from on the tent, and behold, Miriam was infected with a skin disease white like snow; when Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was afflicted with a skin disease.
12:11 So Aaron said to Moses, “Please, my lord, please do not put on us this sin in which we were foolish and in which we have sinned.
12:12 Please do not let her be like the dead, whose flesh is half consumed when coming out from the womb of its mother.”
12:13 And Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “God, please heal her!”
12:14 But Yahweh said to Moses, “If her father had surely spit in her face, would she not bear her shame for seven days? Let her be confined for seven days to an outside place of the camp, and afterward she may be gathered.”
12:15 So Miriam was confined to the outside place of the camp seven days, and the people did not set out until Miriam was gathered.
12:16 And afterward the people set out from Hazeroth, and they encamped in the desert of Paran.
NIRV translation
Numbers 11:30 - 12:16
11:30 Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.
11:31 The Lord sent out a wind. It drove quail in from the Red Sea. It brought them down all around the camp. They were about three feet above the ground. They could be seen in every direction as far as a person could walk in a day.
11:32 The people went out all day and gathered quail. They gathered them all night and all the next day. No one gathered less than 60 bushels. Then they spread the quail out all around the camp.
11:33 But while the meat was still in their mouths, the Lord acted. Before the people could swallow it, his anger burned against them. He struck them with a terrible plague.
11:34 So the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah. That’s where the bodies of the people who had longed for other food were buried.
11:35 From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth. And they stayed there.
12:1 Miriam and Aaron Speak Against Moses
Miriam and Aaron began to say bad things about Moses. That’s because Moses had married a woman from Cush.
12:2 “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” The Lord heard what they said.
12:3 Moses wasn’t very proud at all. In fact, he had less pride than anyone else on the face of the earth.
12:4 The Lord spoke to Moses, Aaron and Miriam. He said, “All three of you, come out to the Tent of Meeting.” So they did.
12:5 Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud. He stood at the entrance to the tent. And he told Aaron and Miriam to come to him. Both of them stepped forward.
12:6 Then the Lord said, “Listen to my words.
“Suppose one of my prophets is among you.
I make myself known to him in visions.
I speak to him in dreams.
12:7 But that is not true of my servant Moses.
He is faithful in everything he does in my house.
12:8 With Moses I speak face to face.
I speak with him clearly. I do not speak in riddles.
I let him see something of what I look like.
So why were you not afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?”
12:9 The anger of the Lord burned against them. And he left them.
12:10 When the cloud went up from above the tent, there stood Miriam. She had a disease that made her skin as white as snow.
Aaron turned toward her. He saw that she had a skin disease.
12:11 So he said to Moses, “We have committed a very foolish sin. Please don’t hold it against us.
12:12 Don’t let Miriam be like a baby that was born dead. Don’t let her look like a dead baby whose body is half eaten away.”
12:13 So Moses cried out to the Lord. He said, “God, please heal her!”
12:14 The Lord answered Moses. He said, “Suppose her father had spit in her face. Then she would have been put to shame for seven days. So keep her outside the camp for seven days. After that, you can bring her back.”
12:15 So Miriam was kept outside the camp for seven days. The people didn’t move on until she was brought back.
12:16 After that, the people left Hazeroth. They camped in the Desert of Paran.

Gospel — Luke 11:1-28
LEB translation
Luke 11:1-28
11:1 How to Pray
And it happened that while he was in a certain place praying, when he stopped a certain one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.”
11:2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say,
“Father,
may your name be treated as holy.
May your kingdom come.
11:3 Give us each day our daily bread.
11:4 And forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation.”
11:5 Ask, Seek, Knock
And he said to them, “Who of you will have a friend, and will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
11:6 because a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I do not have anything to set before him.’
11:7 And that one will answer from inside and say, ‘Do not cause me trouble! The door has already been shut and my children are with me in bed! I am not able to get up to give you anything.’
11:8 I tell you, even if he does not give him anything after he gets up because he is his friend, at any rate because of his impudence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
11:9 And I tell you, ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened for you.
11:10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
11:11 But what father from among you, if his son will ask for a fish, instead of a fish will give him a snake?
11:12 Or also, if he will ask for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
11:13 Therefore if you, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
11:14 A House Divided Cannot Stand
And he was expelling a mute demon. Now it happened that when the demon came out, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished.
11:15 But some of them said, “By Beelzebul the ruler of demons he expels demons!”
11:16 And others, in order to test him, were demanding from him a sign from heaven.
11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.
11:18 So if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I expel demons by Beelzebul.
11:19 But if I expel demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons expel them? For this reason they will be your judges!
11:20 But if I expel demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you!
11:21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are safe.
11:22 But when a stronger man attacks him and conquers him, he takes away his full armor in which he trusted and distributes his plunder.
11:23 The one who is not with me is against me, and the one who does not gather with me scatters.
11:24 An Unclean Spirit Returns
“Whenever an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it travels through waterless places searching for rest, and does not find it. It says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came out.’
11:25 And when it arrives it finds the house swept and put in order.
11:26 Then it goes and brings along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there. And the last state of that person becomes worse than the first!”
11:27 Now it happened that as he said these things, a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!”
11:28 But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it!”
NIRV translation
Luke 11:1-28
11:1 Jesus Teaches About Prayer
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples spoke to him. “Lord,” he said, “teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
11:2 Jesus said to them, “When you pray, this is what you should say.
“‘Father,
may your name be honored.
May your kingdom come.
11:3 Give us each day our daily bread.
11:4 Forgive us our sins,
as we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
Keep us from falling into sin when we are tempted.’”
11:5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose someone has a friend. He goes to him at midnight. He says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread.
11:6 A friend of mine on a journey has come to stay with me. I have nothing for him to eat.’
11:7 “Then the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked. My children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’
11:8 “I tell you, that person will not get up. And he won’t give the man bread just because he is his friend. But because the man keeps on asking, he will get up. He will give him as much as he needs.
11:9 “So here is what I say to you. Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.
11:10 Everyone who asks will receive. He who searches will find. And the door will be opened to the one who knocks.
11:11 “Fathers, suppose your son asks for a fish. Which of you will give him a snake instead?
11:12 Or suppose he asks for an egg. Which of you will give him a scorpion?
11:13 Even though you are evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children. How much more will your Father who is in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
11:14 Jesus and Beelzebub
Jesus was driving out a demon. The man who had the demon could not speak. When the demon left, the man began to speak. The crowd was amazed.
11:15 But some of them said, “Jesus is driving out demons by the power of Beelzebub, the prince of demons.”
11:16 Others put Jesus to the test by asking for a miraculous sign from heaven.
11:17 Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he said to them, “Any kingdom that fights against itself will be destroyed. A family that is divided against itself will fall.
11:18 If Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom stand?
“I say this because of what you claim. You say I drive out demons by the power of Beelzebub.
11:19 Suppose I do drive out demons with Beelzebub’s help. With whose help do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be your judges.
11:20 But suppose I drive out demons with the help of God’s powerful finger. Then God’s kingdom has come to you.
11:21 “When a strong man is completely armed and guards his house, what he owns is safe.
11:22 But when someone stronger attacks, he is overpowered. The attacker takes away the armor the man had trusted in. Then he divides up what he has stolen.
11:23 “Anyone who is not with me is against me. Anyone who does not gather sheep with me scatters them.
11:24 “What happens when an evil spirit comes out of a man? It goes through dry areas looking for a place to rest. But it doesn’t find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’
11:25 When it arrives there, it finds the house swept clean and put in order.
11:26 Then the evil spirit goes and takes seven other spirits more evil than itself. They go in and live there. That man is worse off than before.”
11:27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out. She shouted, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”
11:28 He replied, “Instead, blessed are those who hear God’s word and obey it.”
