Exodus 23:20 - 23:25
23:20 Reasons for Loyal Obedience
“‘Look, I am about to send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.
23:21 Be attentive to him and listen to his voice; do not rebel against him, because he will not forgive your transgression, for my name is in him.
23:22 But if you listen attentively to his voice and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes.
23:23 When my angel goes before you and brings you to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, I will wipe them out.
23:24 “‘You will not bow to their gods, and you will not serve them, and you will not act according to their actions, because you will utterly demolish them, and you will utterly break their stone pillars.
23:25 And you will serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will remove sickness from among you.
23:26 There will be no one suffering miscarriage or infertile in your land. I will make full the number of your days.
23:27 “‘I will release my terror before you, and I will throw into confusion all the people against whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their back to you.
23:28 And I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you.
23:29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become a desolation and the wild animals multiply against you.
23:30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land.
23:31 “‘And I will set your boundary from the Red Sea and up to the sea of the Philistines and from the desert up to the river, because I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out from before you.
23:32 You will not make a covenant with them and with their gods.
23:33 They will not live in your land, lest they cause you to sin against me when you serve their gods, for it will be a snare to you.’”
24:1 Confirming the Covenant
And to Moses he said, “Go up to Yahweh—you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy from the elders of Israel—and you will worship at a distance.
24:2 And Moses alone will come near to Yahweh, and they will not come near, and the people will not go up with him.”
24:3 And Moses came, and he told the people all the words of Yahweh and all the regulations. And all the people answered with one voice, and they said, “All the words that Yahweh has spoken we will do.”
24:4 And Moses wrote all the words of Yahweh, and he rose early in the morning, and he built an altar at the base of the mountain and set up twelve memorial stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.
24:5 And he sent young men from the Israelites, and they offered burnt offerings, and they sacrificed sacrifices as fellowship offerings to Yahweh using bulls.
24:6 And Moses took half of the blood, and he put it in bowls, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
24:7 And he took the scroll of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “All that Yahweh has spoken we will do, and we will listen.”
24:8 And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and he said, “Look, the blood of the covenant that Yahweh has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
24:9 And Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy from the elders of Israel went up.
24:10 And they saw the God of Israel, and what was under his feet was like sapphire tile work and like the very heavens for clearness.
24:11 And toward the leaders of the Israelites he did not stretch out his hand, and they beheld God, and they ate, and they drank.
24:12 The Start of Forty Days and Nights on Mount Sinai
And Yahweh said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and be there, and I will give you the tablets of stone and the law and the commandments that I have written to instruct them.”
24:13 And Moses got up, and Joshua, his assistant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.
24:14 And to the elders he said, “Wait for us here until we return to you. And look, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute will bring it to you.”
24:15 And Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.
24:16 And the glory of Yahweh settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days, and he called to Moses on the seventh day from the midst of the cloud.
24:17 And the appearance of the glory of Yahweh was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain to the eyes of the Israelites.
24:18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and he went up the mountain, and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Exodus 23:20 - 23:25
23:20 God’s Angel Will Prepare the Way
“I am sending an angel ahead of you. He will guard you along the way. He will bring you to the place I have prepared.
23:21 Pay attention to him. Listen to what he says. Do not refuse to obey him. He will not forgive you if you turn against him. My very Name is in him.
23:22 Listen carefully to what he says. Do everything I say. Then I will be an enemy to your enemies. I will fight against those who fight against you.
23:23 “My angel will go ahead of you. He will bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites. I will wipe them out.
23:24 “Do not do what they do. Do not bow down to their gods or worship them. You must destroy the statues of their gods. You must break their sacred stones to pieces.
23:25 “I am the Lord your God. Worship me. Then I will bless your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you.
23:26 In your land no woman will give birth to a dead baby. Every woman will be able to have children. I will give you a long life.
23:27 “I will send my terror ahead of you. I will throw every nation you meet into a panic. I will make all of your enemies turn their backs and run away.
23:28 I will send hornets ahead of you. They will drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way.
23:29 “But I will not drive them out in just one year. If I did, the land would be deserted. There would be too many wild animals for you.
23:30 I will drive them out ahead of you little by little. I will do it until your numbers have increased enough for you to take control of the land.
23:31 “I will make your borders secure from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. They will go from the desert to the Euphrates River.
“I will hand over to you the people who live in the land. You will drive them out to make room for you.
23:32 Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods.
23:33 Do not let them live in your land. If you do, they will cause you to sin against me. If you worship their gods, that will certainly be a trap for you.”
24:1 The Blood of the Covenant
The Lord said to Moses, “You and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and 70 of the elders of Israel must come up to me. Do not come close when you worship.
24:2 Only Moses can come close to me. The others must not come near. And the people may not go up with him.”
24:3 Moses went and told the people all of the Lord’s words and laws. They answered with one voice. They said, “We will do everything the Lord has told us to do.”
24:4 Then Moses wrote down everything the Lord had said.
Moses got up early the next morning. He built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He set up 12 stone pillars. They stood for the 12 tribes of Israel.
24:5 Then he sent young Israelite men to offer burnt offerings. They also sacrificed young bulls as friendship offerings to the Lord.
24:6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls. He sprinkled the other half on the altar.
24:7 Then he took the Scroll of the Covenant and read it to the people.
They answered, “We will do everything the Lord has told us to do. We will obey him.”
24:8 Then Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people. He said, “This is the blood that puts the covenant into effect. The Lord has made this covenant with you in keeping with all of these words.”
24:9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the 70 elders of Israel went up.
24:10 They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a street made out of sapphire. It was as clear as the sky itself.
24:11 But God didn’t raise his hand against those leaders of the people of Israel. They saw God. And they ate and drank.
24:12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay here. I will give you the stone tablets. They contain the law and commands I have written to teach the people.”
24:13 Then Moses and Joshua, his helper, started out. Moses went up on the mountain of God.
24:14 He said to the elders, “Wait for us here until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you. Anyone who has a problem can go to them.”
24:15 Moses went up on the mountain. Then the cloud covered it.
24:16 The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. The cloud covered the mountain for six days.
On the seventh day the Lord called out to Moses from inside the cloud.
24:17 The people of Israel saw the glory of the Lord. It looked like a fire burning on top of the mountain.
24:18 Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. He stayed on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.

Gospel — Mark 9:30 - 9:32 ; Mark 9:33 - 9:41;
LEB translation
Mark 9:30 - 9:32
9:30 Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection a Second Time
And from there they went out and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know,
9:31 for he was teaching his disciples and was telling them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
9:32 But they did not understand the statement, and they were afraid to ask him.
9:33 The Question About Who Is Greatest
And they came to Capernaum. And after he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
9:34 But they were silent, because they had argued with one another on the way about who was greatest.
9:35 And he sat down and called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he will be last of all and servant of all.”
9:36 And he took a young child and had him stand among them. And taking him in his arms, he said to them,
9:37 “Whoever welcomes one of the young children such as these in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but the one who sent me.”
9:38 Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us
John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone expelling demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.”
9:39 But Jesus said, “Do not prevent him, because there is no one who does a miracle in my name and will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.
9:40 For whoever is not against us is for us.
9:41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name because you are Christ’s, truly I say to you that he will never lose his reward.
NIRV translation
Mark 9:30 - 9:32
9:30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were.
9:31 That was because he was teaching his disciples.
He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be handed over to men. They will kill him. After three days he will rise from the dead.”
9:32 But they didn’t understand what he meant. And they were afraid to ask him about it.
9:33 Who Is the Most Important Person?
Jesus and his disciples came to a house in Capernaum. There he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?”
9:34 But they kept quiet. On the way, they had argued about which one of them was the most important person.
9:35 Jesus sat down and called for the Twelve to come to him. Then he said, “If you want to be first, you must be the very last. You must be the servant of everyone.”
9:36 Jesus took a little child and had the child stand among them. Then he took the child in his arms. He said to them,
9:37 “Anyone who welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me. And anyone who welcomes me doesn’t welcome only me but also the One who sent me.”
9:38 Anyone Who Is Not Against Us Is for Us
“Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name. We told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”
9:39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me.
9:40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.
9:41 “What I’m about to tell you is true. Suppose someone gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to me. That one will certainly not go without a reward.
