Passages

Torah — Genesis 48:17 - 48:22

LEB translation

48:17 When Joseph saw that his father put his right hand on the head of Ephraim, he was displeased. And he took hold of his father’s hand to remove it from the head of Ephraim over to the head of Manasseh.
48:18 And Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father; because this one is the firstborn. Put your right hand upon his head.”
48:19 But his father refused and said, “I know, my son; I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great, but his younger brother shall be greater than him, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.”
48:20 So he blessed them that day, saying, Through you Israel shall pronounce blessing, saying, ‘May God make you like Ephraim and like Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim before Manasseh.
48:21 And Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you back to the land of your ancestors.
48:22 And I have given to you one slope of land rather than your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorites by my sword and with my bow.”

Gospel — John 20:19 - 23

LEB translation

20:19 Jesus Appears to the Disciples Now when it was evening on that day—the first day of the week—and the doors had been shut where the disciples were because of fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace to you.”
20:20 And when he had said this, he showed his hands and his side to them. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
20:21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”
20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
20:23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
