Deuteronomy 29:9 - 29:11

29:9 And you must diligently observe the words of this covenant, so that you may succeed in all that you do.

29:10 “You are standing today, all of you, before Yahweh your God, your leaders, your tribes, your elders, and your officials, all the men of Israel,

29:11 your little children, your women and your aliens who are in the midst of your camp, from the choppers of your wood to the drawers of your water,

29:12 in order for you to enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath that Yahweh your God is making with you today,

29:13 in order to establish you today to himself as a people and so that he may be for you as God, just as he promised to you and just as he swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

29:14 “Now I am not making this covenant and this oath with you alone.

20:7 Eutychus Falls from a Window And on the first day of the week, when we had assembled to break bread, Paul began conversing with them, because he was going to leave on the next day, and he extended his message until midnight.

20:8 Now there were quite a few lamps in the upstairs room where we were gathered.

20:9 And a certain young man named Eutychus who was sitting in the window was sinking into a deep sleep while Paul was conversing at length. Being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was picked up dead.

20:10 But Paul went down and threw himself on him, and putting his arms around him, said, “Do not be distressed, for his life is in him.”

20:11 So he went up and broke bread, and when he had eaten and talked for a long time, until dawn, then he departed.

20:12 And they led the youth away alive, and were greatly comforted.

20:13 The Voyage to Miletus But we went on ahead to the ship and put out to sea for Assos, intending to take Paul on board there. For having made arrangements in this way, he himself was intending to travel by land.

20:14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and went to Mitylene.

20:15 And we sailed from there on the next day, and arrived opposite Chios. And on the next day we approached Samos, and on the following day we came to Miletus.

20:16 For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus so that he would not be having to spend time in Asia. For he was hurrying if it could be possible for him to be in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost.

20:17 Paul’s Farewell to the Ephesian Elders And from Miletus he sent word to Ephesus and summoned the elders of the church.

20:18 And when they came to him, he said to them, “You know from the first day on which I set foot in Asia how I was the whole time with you—

20:19 serving the Lord with all humility and with tears, and with the trials that happened to me through the plots of the Jews—

20:20 how I did not shrink from proclaiming to you anything that would be profitable, and from teaching you in public and from house to house,

20:21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks with respect to repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus.

Acts 20:7 - 20:12

20:7 Eutychus Is Raised From the Dead On the first day of the week we met to break bread and eat together. Paul spoke to the people. He kept on talking until midnight because he planned to leave the next day.

20:8 There were many lamps in the room upstairs where we were meeting.

20:9 A young man named Eutychus was sitting in a window. He sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. Sound asleep, Eutychus fell from the third floor. When they picked him up from the ground, he was dead.

20:10 Paul went down and threw himself on the young man. He put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “He’s alive!”

20:11 Then Paul went upstairs again. He broke bread and ate with them. He kept on talking until daylight. Then he left.

20:12 The people took the young man home. They were greatly comforted because he was alive.

20:13 Paul Says Good-by to the Ephesian Elders We went on ahead to the ship. We sailed for Assos. There we were going to take Paul on board. He had planned it this way because he wanted to go there by land.

20:14 So he met us at Assos. We took him on board and went on to Mitylene.

20:15 The next day we sailed from there. We arrived near Kios. The day after that we crossed over to Samos. We arrived at Miletus the next day.

20:16 Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus. He didn’t want to spend time in Asia Minor. He was in a hurry to get to Jerusalem. If he could, he wanted to be there by the day of Pentecost.

20:17 From Miletus, Paul sent for the elders of the church at Ephesus.

20:18 When they arrived, he spoke to them. “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you,” he said. “From the first day I came into Asia Minor,

20:19 I was free of pride. I served the Lord with tears. I served him even though I was greatly tested by the evil plans of the Jews.

20:20 You know I haven’t let anyone keep me from preaching anything that would be helpful to you. I have taught you in public and from house to house.

20:21 I have told both Jews and Greeks that they must turn away from their sins to God. They must have faith in our Lord Jesus.

20:7 Ἐν In δὲ then τῇ the μιᾷ first [day] τῶν of the σαββάτων week συνηγμένων come together ἡμῶν we μαθητῶν ˍˍdisciples τοῦ ˍˍfor the κλάσαι breaking ἄρτον of bread ὁ <the> Παῦλος Paul διελέγετο was talking αὐτοῖς to them μέλλων about ἐξιέναι to depart τῇ on the ἐπαύριον next day παρέτεινέν he was continuing τε then τὸν the λόγον talk μέχρι until μεσονυκτίου· midnight;

20:8 ἦσαν There were δὲ now λαμπάδες lamps ἱκαναὶ many ἐν in τῷ the ὑπερῴῳ upper room οὗ where ἦμεν we were συνηγμένοι. assembled.

20:9 καθεζόμενος sitting δέ then τις a certain νεανίας young man ὀνόματι named Εὔτυχος Eutychus ἐπὶ by τῆς the θυρίδος, window, καταφερόμενος overpowered ὕπνῳ by sleep βαθεῖ, deep διαλεγομένου as is talking τοῦ <the> Παύλου Paul ἐπὶ on πλεῖον, longer, κατενεχθεὶς having been overpowered ἀπὸ by τοῦ the ὕπνου sleep ἔπεσεν he fell ἀπὸ from τοῦ the τριστέγου third story κάτω down καὶ and ἤρθη was picked up νεκρός. dead.

20:14 ὡς When δὲ now συνέβαλλεν he was meeting with ἡμῖν us εἰς at τὴν <the> Ἆσσον, Assos, ἀναλαβόντες having taken in αὐτὸν him ἤλθομεν we came εἰς to Μιτυλήνην· Mitylene;

20:15 κἀκεῖθεν And from there ἀποπλεύσαντες having sailed away τῇ on the ἐπιούσῃ following [day] κατηντήσαμεν we arrived ἄντικρυς opposite Χίου, Chios, τῇ on the δὲ then ἑτέρᾳ next [day] παρεβάλομεν we arrived εἰς at Σάμον Samos καὶ ˍˍand μείναντες ˍˍawait ἐν ˍˍin Τρωγυλλίῳ, ˍˍTrogyllium τῇ on the δὲ ₊and ἐχομένῃ following [day] ἤλθομεν we came εἰς to Μίλητον. 20:16 κεκρίκει Had decided γὰρ for ὁ <the> Παῦλος Paul παραπλεῦσαι to sail by τὴν <the> Ἔφεσον, Ephesus, ὅπως so that μὴ not γένηται it may happen αὐτῷ to him χρονοτριβῆσαι to spend time ἐν in τῇ <the> Ἀσίᾳ· Asia; ἔσπευδεν he was hastened γὰρ for εἰ if δυνατὸν possible εἴη it would be αὐτῷ for him τὴν on the ἡμέραν day τῆς <the> πεντηκοστῆς of Pentecost γενέσθαι to be εἰς in Ἱεροσόλυμα.¶ Jerusalem.
