LEB translation

17:8 Instructions Against Eating Blood “And you shall say to them, ‘if there is anyone from the house of Israel or from the alien who dwells in their midst who offers a burnt offering or a sacrifice
17:9 and he does not bring it to the tent of assembly’s entrance to sacrifice it for Yahweh, then that man shall be cut off from his people.
17:10 And if there is anyone from the house of Israel or from the alien who is dwelling in their midst who eats any blood, then I will set my face against the person who eats the blood, and I will cut him off from among his people.
17:11 Indeed the flesh’s life is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your lives, because it is the blood with the life that makes atonement.
17:12 Therefore I said to the Israelites, ‘None of you may eat blood, nor may the alien who is dwelling in your midst eat blood.’
17:13 “And if there is anyone from the Israelites or from the alien who is dwelling in their midst who hunts a wild game animal or a bird that may be eaten, then he shall pour out its blood, and he shall cover it with the soil.
17:14 Indeed, the life of all flesh, its blood, is in its life, so I said to the Israelites, ‘You may not eat the blood of any flesh, because the life of all flesh is its blood; anyone who eats it must be cut off.’
17:15 “And if there is any person who eats a dead body or a mangled carcass, whether among the native or among the alien, then he shall wash his garments, and he shall wash himself with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening, and he shall be clean.
17:16 But if he does not wash his garments and he does not wash his body, then he shall bear his guilt.”
18:1 Unlawful Sexual Relations Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
18:2 “Speak to the Israelites, and say to them, ‘I am Yahweh your God.
18:3 You must not carry out the practices of the land of Egypt, in which you lived, and you must not carry out the practices of the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you; and you must not follow their statutes.
18:4 You must carry out my regulations, and you must observe my statutes by following them; I am Yahweh your God.
18:5 And you shall observe my statutes and my regulations by which the person doing them shall live; I am Yahweh.
18:6 “‘None of you shall approach anyone who is his close relative to expose nakedness; I am Yahweh.
18:7 You must not expose your father’s nakedness or your mother’s nakedness—she is your mother; you must not expose her nakedness.
18:8 You must not expose the nakedness of your father’s wife—it is your father’s nakedness.
18:9 As for your sister’s nakedness, whether your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether born at home or born abroad, you must not expose their nakedness.
18:10 As for the nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, you must not expose their nakedness, because they are your nakedness.
18:11 As for the nakedness of the daughter of your father’s wife, she is your sister, a relative of your father; you must not expose her nakedness.
18:12 You must not expose the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
18:13 You must not expose the nakedness of your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative.
18:14 You must not expose the nakedness of your father’s brother; you must not have sex with his wife—she is your aunt.
18:15 You must not expose your daughter-in-law’s nakedness; she is your son’s wife; you must not expose her nakedness.
18:16 You must not expose the nakedness of your brother’s wife; she is your brother’s nakedness.
18:17 You must not expose the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, or her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter; you must not take her as wife to expose her nakedness; they are close relatives—that is wickedness.
18:18 And you must not take as wife a woman with her sister, to be a rival-wife, to expose her nakedness before her during her life.
18:19 “‘And you must not have sex with a woman to expose her nakedness during her menstrual uncleanness.
18:20 And you must not have sex with your fellow citizen’s wife, becoming unclean with her.
18:21 “‘And you shall not give any of your offspring in order to sacrifice them to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God; I am Yahweh.

Gospel — Matthew 20:20-21:27

LEB translation

20:20 A Request by the Mother of James and John Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling down she asked something from him.
20:21 And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine may sit one at your right hand and one at your left in your kingdom.”
20:22 But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”
20:23 He said to them, “You will indeed drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”
20:24 And when the ten heard this, they were indignant concerning the two brothers.
20:25 But Jesus called them to himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions exercise authority over them.
20:26 It will not be like this among you! But whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
20:27 and whoever wants to be most prominent among you must be your slave—
20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
20:29 Two Blind Men Healed at Jericho And as they were going out of Jericho, a large crowd followed him.
20:30 And behold, there were two blind men sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they called out, saying, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
20:31 And the crowd rebuked them so that they would be quiet. But they called out all the more, saying, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
20:32 And Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?”
20:33 They said to him, “Lord, that our eyes be opened!”
20:34 And having compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed him.
21:1 The Triumphal Entry And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
21:2 saying to them, “Go into the village before you, and right away you will find a donkey tied and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me.
21:3 And if anyone says anything to you, you will say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.”
21:4 Now this took place so that what was spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying,
21:5 “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a pack animal.’”
21:6 So the disciples went and did just as Jesus directed them,
21:7 and brought the donkey and the colt and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them.
21:8 And a very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.
21:9 And the crowds who went ahead of him and the ones who followed were shouting, saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
21:10 And when he entered into Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”
21:11 And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee!”
21:12 The Cleansing of the Temple And Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves.
21:13 And he said to them, “It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a cave of robbers!”
21:14 And the blind and the lame came up to him in the temple courts and he healed them.
21:15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children shouting in the temple courts and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant.
21:16 And they said to him, “Do you hear what these children are saying?” So Jesus said to them, “Yes, have you never read, ‘Out of the mouths of children and nursing babies you have prepared for yourself praise’?”
21:17 And leaving them, he went outside of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.
21:18 A Barren Fig Tree Cursed Now early in the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry.
21:19 And seeing a single fig tree by the road, he went to it and found nothing on it except leaves only. And he said to it, “May there be no more fruit from you forever, and the fig tree withered at once.
21:20 And when they saw it, the disciples were astonished, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?”
21:21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will do not only what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,” it will happen!
21:22 And whatever you ask in prayer, if you believe, you will receive.”
21:23 Jesus’ Authority Challenged And after he arrived at the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him while he was teaching, saying, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?”
21:24 And Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one question. If you tell the answer to me, I also will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
21:25 From where was the baptism of John—from heaven or from men?” And they began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “If we say ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
21:26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the crowd, because they all look upon John as a prophet.”
21:27 And they answered and said to Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
