Exodus 3:1 - 3:15
3:1 Yahweh’s Plan to Rescue the Israelites
And Moses was a shepherd with the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the west of the desert, and he came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.
3:2 And the angel of Yahweh appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush, and he looked, and there was the bush burning with fire, but the bush was not being consumed.
3:3 And Moses said, “Let me turn aside and see this great sight. Why does the bush not burn up?”
3:4 And Yahweh saw that he turned aside to see, and God called to him from the midst of the bush, and he said, “Moses, Moses.” And he said, “Here I am.”
3:5 And he said, “You must not come near to here. Take off your sandals from on your feet, because the place on which you are standing, it is holy ground.”
3:6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God.
3:7 And Yahweh said, “Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings.
3:8 And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.
3:9 And now, look, the cry of distress of the Israelites has come to me, and also I see the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.
3:10 And now come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, and you must bring my people, the Israelites, out from Egypt.”
3:11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out from Egypt?”
3:12 And he said, “Because I am with you, and this will be the sign for you that I myself have sent you: When you bring the people out from Egypt, you will serve God on this mountain.”
3:13 But Moses said to God, “Look, if I go to the Israelites and I say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is his name?’ then what shall I say to them?”
3:14 And God said to Moses, “I am that I am.” And he said, “So you must say to the Israelites, ‘I am sent me to you.’”
3:15 And God said again to Moses, “So you must say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my remembrance from generation to generation.’

Exodus 3:1 - 3:15
3:1 The Lord Sends Moses to Save His People
Moses was taking care of the flock of his father-in-law Jethro. Jethro was the priest of Midian. Moses led the flock to the western side of the desert. He came to Horeb. It was the mountain of God.
3:2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him from inside a burning bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire. But it didn’t burn up.
3:3 So Moses thought, “I’ll go over and see this strange sight. Why doesn’t the bush burn up?”
3:4 The Lord saw that Moses had gone over to look. So God spoke to him from inside the bush. He called out, “Moses! Moses!”
“Here I am,” Moses said.
3:5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals. The place you are standing on is holy ground.”
3:6 He continued, “I am the God of your father. I am the God of Abraham. I am the God of Isaac. And I am the God of Jacob.”
When Moses heard that, he turned his face away. He was afraid to look at God.
3:7 The Lord said, “I have seen my people suffer in Egypt. I have heard them cry out because of their slave drivers. I am concerned about their suffering.
3:8 “So I have come down to save them from the Egyptians. I will bring them up out of that land. I will bring them into a good land. It has a lot of room. It is a land that has plenty of milk and honey. It is the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
3:9 “And now Israel’s cry for help has reached me. I have seen the way the Egyptians are beating them down.
3:10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh. I want you to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. They are my people.”
3:11 But Moses spoke to God. “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” he said. “Who am I that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
3:12 God said, “I will be with you. I will give you a miraculous sign. It will prove that I have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship me on this mountain.”
3:13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the people of Israel. Suppose I say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Suppose they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”
3:14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am. Here is what you must say to the Israelites. Tell them, ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
3:15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord is the God of your fathers. He has sent me to you. He is the God of Abraham. He is the God of Isaac. And he is the God of Jacob.’ My name will always be The Lord. Remember me by that name for all time to come.

Gospel — Mark 1:21 - 1:28
LEB translation
Mark 1:21 - 1:28
1:21 And they went into Capernaum and immediately on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue.
1:22 A Man with an Unclean Spirit Healed
And they were amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like the scribes.
1:23 And so then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,
1:24 saying, “Leave us alone, Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”
1:26 And after convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him.
1:27 And they were all amazed, so that they began to discuss with one another, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him.”
1:28 And the report about him then went out everywhere in the whole surrounding region of Galilee.

Mark 1:21 - 1:28
1:21 Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit
Jesus and those with him went to Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue. There he began to teach.
1:22 The people were amazed at his teaching. He taught them like one who had authority. He did not talk like the teachers of the law.
1:23 Just then a man in their synagogue cried out. He was controlled by an evil spirit. He said,
1:24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!”
1:25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus firmly. “Come out of him!”
1:26 The evil spirit shook the man wildly. Then it came out of him with a scream.
1:27 All the people were amazed. So they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching! And with so much authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.”
1:28 News about Jesus spread quickly all over Galilee.
