Deuteronomy 32:1 - 32:6

32:1 The Song of Moses “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

32:2 May my teaching trickle like the dew, my words like rain showers on tender grass, and like spring showers on new growth.

32:3 For I will proclaim the name of Yahweh; ascribe greatness to our God!

32:4 The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are just; he is a faithful God, and without injustice; righteous and upright is he.

32:5 They have behaved corruptly toward him; they are not his children; this is their flaw, a generation crooked and perverse.

32:6 Like this do you treat Yahweh, foolish and unwise people? Has he not, your father, created you? He made you, and he established you.

32:1 הַאֲזִ֥ינוּ ha.'a.Zi.nu give ear הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם ha.sha.Ma.yim O/ heavens וַאֲדַבֵּ֑רָה va.'a.da.Be.rah so/ let me speak וְתִשְׁמַ֥ע ve.tish.Ma' and/ it may hear הָאָ֖רֶץ ha.'A.retz the/ earth אִמְרֵי־ 'im.rei- [the] words of פִֽי׃ Fi mouth/ my

32:2 יַעֲרֹ֤ף ya.'a.Rof may it drop כַּמָּטָר֙ ka.ma.Tar like the/ rain לִקְחִ֔י lik.Chi teaching/ my תִּזַּ֥ל ti.Zal may it distil כַּטַּ֖ל ka.Tal like the/ dew אִמְרָתִ֑י 'im.ra.Ti speech/ my כִּשְׂעִירִ֣ם kis.'i.Rim like/ showers of rain עֲלֵי־ 'a.lei- on דֶ֔שֶׁא De.she' grass וְכִרְבִיבִ֖ים ve.khir.vi.Vim and/ like/ copious showers עֲלֵי־ 'a.lei- on עֵֽשֶׂב׃ 'E.sev vegetation

32:3 כִּ֛י ki for שֵׁ֥ם shem [the] name of יְהוָ֖ה Yah.weh Yahweh אֶקְרָ֑א 'ek.Ra' I will proclaim הָב֥וּ ha.Vu ascribe גֹ֖דֶל Go.del greatness לֵאלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ le.lo.Hei.nu to/ God/ our

32:4 הַצּוּר֙ ha.Tzur the/ rock תָּמִ֣ים ta.Mim [is] perfect פָּעֳל֔וֹ po.'o.Lo work/ his כִּ֥י ki for כָל־ khol- all דְּרָכָ֖יו de.ra.Khav ways/ his מִשְׁפָּ֑ט mish.Pat [are] justice אֵ֤ל 'el a God of אֱמוּנָה֙ 'e.mu.Nah faithfulness וְאֵ֣ין ve.'Ein and/ there not עָ֔וֶל 'A.vel [is] injustice צַדִּ֥יק tza.Dik [is] righteous וְיָשָׁ֖ר ve.ya.Shar and/ upright הֽוּא׃ Hu' he

32:5 שִׁחֵ֥ת shi.Chet it has acted corruptly ל֛וֹ lo to <the>/ him לֹ֖א lo' not בָּנָ֣יו ba.Nav children/ his מוּמָ֑ם mu.Mam blemish/ their דּ֥וֹר Dor a generation עִקֵּ֖שׁ 'i.Kesh perverse וּפְתַלְתֹּֽל׃ u.fe.tal.Tol and/ crooked

32:6 הֲ־ hă- ¿ לַיְהוָה֙ la.Yah.weh to/ Yahweh תִּגְמְלוּ־ tig.me.lu- do you repay זֹ֔את Zot this עַ֥ם 'am O people נָבָ֖ל na.Val foolish וְלֹ֣א ve.Lo' and/ not חָכָ֑ם cha.Kham wise הֲלוֹא־ ha.lo'- ¿/ not הוּא֙ hu' [is] he אָבִ֣יךָ 'a.Vi.kha father/ your קָּנֶ֔ךָ ka.Ne.cha he created/ you ה֥וּא hu' he עָֽשְׂךָ֖ 'a.se.Kha he made/ you וַֽיְכֹנְנֶֽךָ׃ Vay.kho.ne.Ne.kha and/ he established/ you

23:23 And he summoned two of the centurions and said, “Make ready from the third hour of the night two hundred soldiers and seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen, in order that they may proceed as far as Caesarea.

23:24 And provide mounts so that they can put Paul on them and bring him safely to Felix the governor.”

23:25 He wrote a letter that had this form:

23:26 Claudius Lysias. To his excellency Governor Felix. Greetings!

23:27 This man was seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them when I came upon them with the detachment and rescued him, because I learned that he was a Roman citizen.

23:28 And because I wanted to know the charge for which they were accusing him, I brought him down to their Sanhedrin.

23:29 I found he was accused concerning controversial questions of their law, but having no charge deserving death or imprisonment.

23:30 And when it was made known to me there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you immediately, also ordering his accusers to speak against him before you.

23:31 Therefore the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, took Paul and brought him to Antipatris during the night.

23:32 And on the next day they let the horsemen go on with him, and they returned to the barracks.

23:33 The horsemen, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, also presented Paul to him.

23:34 So after reading the letter and asking what province he was from, and learning that he was from Cilicia,

23:35 he said, “I will give you a hearing whenever your accusers arrive also,” giving orders for him to be guarded in the praetorium of Herod.

23:23 Paul Is Taken to Caesarea Then the commanding officer called for two of his commanders. He ordered them, “Gather a company of 200 soldiers, 70 horsemen and 200 men armed with spears. Get them ready to go to Caesarea at nine o’clock tonight.

23:24 Provide horses for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.”

23:25 Here is the letter the officer wrote.

23:26 I, Claudius Lysias, am writing this letter. I am sending it to His Excellency, Governor Felix. Greetings.

23:27 The Jews grabbed Paul. They were about to kill him. But I came with my soldiers and saved him. I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.

23:28 I wanted to know why they were bringing charges against him. So I brought him to their Sanhedrin.

23:29 I found out that the charge against him was based on questions about their law. But there was no charge against him worthy of death or prison.

23:30 Then I was told about a plan against the man. So I sent him to you at once. I also ordered those bringing charges against him to tell you their case.

23:31 The soldiers followed their orders. During the night they took Paul with them. They brought him as far as Antipatris.

23:32 The next day they let the horsemen go on with him. The soldiers returned to the fort.

23:33 The horsemen arrived in Caesarea. They gave the letter to the governor. Then they handed Paul over to him.

23:34 The governor read the letter. He asked Paul where he was from. He learned that Paul was from Cilicia.

23:35 So he said, “I will hear your case when those bringing charges against you get here.” Then he ordered that Paul be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.

23:23 Καὶ And προσκαλεσάμενος having called to [him] δύο two τινὰς certain τῶν of the ἑκατονταρχῶν centurions εἶπεν· he said; ἑτοιμάσατε do prepare στρατιώτας soldiers διακοσίους two hundred ὅπως so that πορευθῶσιν they may go ἕως as far as Καισαρείας Caesarea καὶ and ἱππεῖς horsemen ἑβδομήκοντα seventy καὶ and δεξιολάβους spearmen διακοσίους two hundred ἀπὸ for τρίτης [the] third ὥρας hour τῆς of the νυκτός, night,

23:24 κτήνη Mounts τε then παραστῆσαι, providing ἵνα so that ἐπιβιβάσαντες having set upon [them] τὸν <the> Παῦλον Paul διασώσωσιν they may bring [him] safely πρὸς to Φήλικα Felix τὸν the ἡγεμόνα· governor;

23:25 γράψας having written ἐπιστολὴν a letter ἔχουσαν having τὸν <the> τύπον form τοῦτον·¶ this:

23:26 Κλαύδιος Claudius Λυσίας Lysias τῷ To the κρατίστῳ most excellent ἡγεμόνι governor Φήλικι Felix χαίρειν. Greeting.

23:27 τὸν <the> ἄνδρα man τοῦτον this συλλημφθέντα having been seized ὑπὸ by τῶν the Ἰουδαίων Jews καὶ and μέλλοντα being about ἀναιρεῖσθαι to be executed ὑπ᾽ by αὐτῶν, them, ἐπιστὰς having come up σὺν with τῷ the στρατεύματι troop ἐξειλάμην I rescued αὐτόν ˍhim μαθὼν having learned ὅτι that Ῥωμαῖός a Roman ἐστιν· he is;

23:28 βουλόμενός Resolving τε then ἐπιγνῶναι to know τὴν the αἰτίαν charge δι᾽ on account of ἣν which ἐνεκάλουν they were accusing αὐτῷ him κατήγαγον I brought down αὐτὸν ˍhim εἰς to τὸ the συνέδριον council αὐτῶν· of them;

23:29 ὃν whom εὗρον I found ἐγκαλούμενον being accused περὶ concerning ζητημάτων questions τοῦ of the νόμου law αὐτῶν, of them, μηδὲν not δὲ however ἄξιον [of anything] worthy θανάτου of death ἢ or δεσμῶν of chains ἔχοντα having ἔγκλημα. accusation.

23:30 μηνυθείσης When was being disclosed δέ then μοι to me ἐπιβουλῆς a plot that εἰς against τὸν the ἄνδρα man μέλλειν ˍto be about to ἔσεσθαι going to happen ὑπὸ ˍˍby τῶν ˍˍthe Ἰουδαίων ˍˍJews ἐξαυτῆς at once ἔπεμψα I sent [him] πρὸς to σὲ you παραγγείλας having instructed καὶ also τοῖς to the κατηγόροις accusers λέγειν to speak τὰ the [things] πρὸς against αὐτὸν him ἐπὶ before σοῦ. you. ἔρρωσο¶ ˍˍFarewell!

23:31 Οἱ <the> μὲν Indeed οὖν therefore στρατιῶται [the] soldiers κατὰ according to τὸ that διατεταγμένον ordered αὐτοῖς them ἀναλαβόντες having taken τὸν <the> Παῦλον Paul ἤγαγον brought [him] διὰ through τῆς ˍ<the> νυκτὸς night εἰς to τὴν <the> Ἀντιπατρίδα. Antipatris.

23:32 τῇ On the δὲ now ἐπαύριον next day ἐάσαντες having allowed τοὺς the ἱππεῖς horsemen ἀπέρχεσθαι to go σὺν with αὐτῷ him ὑπέστρεψαν they returned εἰς to τὴν the παρεμβολήν· barracks;

23:33 οἵτινες who εἰσελθόντες having entered εἰς into τὴν <the> Καισάρειαν Caesarea καὶ and ἀναδόντες having delivered τὴν the ἐπιστολὴν letter τῷ to the ἡγεμόνι governor παρέστησαν presented καὶ also τὸν <the> Παῦλον Paul αὐτῷ. to him.

23:34 ἀναγνοὺς Having read [it] δὲ then ὁ ˍ<the> ἡγεμών ˍgovernor καὶ and ἐπερωτήσας having asked ἐκ from ποίας what ἐπαρχείας province ἐστὶν he is καὶ and πυθόμενος having learned ὅτι that ἀπὸ from Κιλικίας, Cilicia [he is],
