Numbers 19:1 - 19:17
19:1 Ashes of the Red Heifer
And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
19:2 “This is the decree of the law that Yahweh has commanded, saying, ‘Speak to the Israelites and let them take to you a red heifer without a physical defect, on which a yoke has not been placed.
19:3 And you will give it to Eleazar the priest, and it will be brought out to a place outside the camp, and it will be slaughtered in his presence.
19:4 Then Eleazar the priest will take some of its blood on his finger and spatter it toward the mouth of the tent of assembly seven times.
19:5 The heifer will be burned in his sight; its skin, its meat, and its blood, in addition to its offal, will burn.
19:6 The priest will take cedar wood, hyssop, and crimson thread, and he will throw them in the midst of the burning heifer.
19:7 The priest will wash his garments and his body in the water, and afterward he will come to the camp; the priest will be unclean until the evening.
19:8 The one who burns it will wash his garments and his body in water; he will be unclean until the evening.
19:9 A clean man will gather the ashes of the heifer, and he will put them in a clean place outside the camp; it will be for the community of the Israelites as a requirement for waters of impurity; it is a purification offering.
19:10 The one who gathers the ashes of the heifer will wash his garments; he will be unclean until evening. It will be an eternal decree for the Israelites and for one who dwells as an alien in their midst.
19:11 “‘The one who touches a corpse of any person will be unclean for seven days.
19:12 He will purify himself on the third day, and on the seventh day he will be clean. If he does not purify himself on the third day, he will not be clean on the seventh day.
19:13 Anyone who touches a corpse, the person of a human being who died, and does not purify himself, defiles the tabernacle of Yahweh, and that person will be cut off from Israel because the waters of impurity were not sprinkled on him. He will still be unclean, and uncleanness is on him.
19:14 “‘This is the law of a person who dies in a tent: everyone who comes into the tent and all who are in the tent will be unclean seven days.
19:15 Every container that is opened that does not have a lid cord on it is unclean.
19:16 Anyone in the open field who touches one who has been slain, or a corpse, or a bone of a person, or a burial site, he will be unclean for seven days.
19:17 For the unclean person they will take from the powder of the burnt purification offering, and they will put running water into a container.

Numbers 19:1 - 19:17
19:1 The Special Water That Makes People “Clean”
The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said,
19:2 “Here is what the law I have commanded requires. Tell the people of Israel to bring you a young red cow. It must not have any flaws at all. It must never have pulled a load.
19:3 “Give it to the priest Eleazar. It must be taken outside the camp and killed in front of him.
19:4 Then the priest Eleazar must put some of its blood on his finger. He must sprinkle the blood toward the front of the Tent of Meeting. He must do it seven times.
19:5 “While he watches, the young cow must be burned. Its hide, meat, blood and guts must be burned.
19:6 The priest must get some cedar wood, branches of a hyssop plant, and bright red wool. He must throw them on the young cow as it burns.
19:7 “After that, the priest must wash his clothes. He must also take a bath. Then he can come into the camp. But he will be ‘unclean’ until evening.
19:8 “The man who burns the young cow must wash his clothes. He must also take a bath. He too will be ‘unclean’ until evening.
19:9 “A man who is ‘clean’ will gather up the ashes of the young cow. He must put them in a place that is ‘clean.’ The place must be outside the camp. The ashes will be kept by the community of Israel. They will be added to the special water. The water will be used to make people pure from their sin.
19:10 “The man who gathers up the ashes of the young cow must wash his clothes. He too will be ‘unclean’ until evening. That law is for the people of Israel. It is also for the outsiders who are living among them. The law will last for all time to come.
19:11 “Anyone who touches a dead person’s body will be ‘unclean’ for seven days.
19:12 He must make himself pure and clean with the special water. He must do it on the third day. He must also do it on the seventh day. Then he will be ‘clean.’
“But suppose he does not make himself pure and clean on the third and seventh days. Then he will not be ‘clean.’
19:13 Anyone who touches a dead person’s body and does not make himself pure and clean makes my holy tent ‘unclean.’ He must be cut off from Israel. The special water has not been sprinkled on him. So he is ‘unclean.’ And he remains ‘unclean.’
19:14 “Here is the law that applies when a person dies in a tent. Anyone who enters the tent will be ‘unclean’ for seven days. Anyone who is in the tent will also be ‘unclean’ for seven days.
19:15 And anything in it that is open and has no lid will be ‘unclean.’
19:16 “Suppose someone is out in the country. And suppose he touches someone who has been killed with a sword. Or he touches someone who has died a natural death. Or he touches a human bone or a grave. Then anyone who touches any of those things will be ‘unclean’ for seven days.
19:17 “Here is what I want you to do for someone who is not ‘clean.’ Put some ashes from the burned young cow into a jar. Pour fresh water on the ashes.

Gospel — Luke 18:31-43
LEB translation
Luke 18:31-43
18:31 Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection a Third Time
And taking aside the twelve, he said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written by the prophets with reference to the Son of Man will be accomplished.
18:32 For he will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and mistreated and spit on,
18:33 and after flogging him they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.”
18:34 And they understood none of these things, and this saying was concealed from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.
18:35 A Blind Man Healed at Jericho
Now it happened that as he drew near to Jericho, a certain blind man was sitting on the side of the road begging.
18:36 And when he heard a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant.
18:37 And they told him, “Jesus the Nazarene is passing by.”
18:38 And he called out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
18:39 And those who were in front rebuked him, that he should be silent, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
18:40 So Jesus stopped and ordered him to be brought to him. And when he approached, he asked him,
18:41 “What do you want me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, that I may regain my sight.
18:42 And Jesus said to him, “Regain your sight! Your faith has saved you.”
18:43 And immediately he regained his sight and began to follow him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
NIRV translation
Luke 18:31-43
18:31 Jesus Again Tells About His Coming Death
Jesus took the Twelve to one side. He told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem. Everything that the prophets wrote about the Son of Man will come true.
18:32 He will be handed over to people who are not Jews. They will make fun of him. They will laugh at him and spit on him. They will whip him and kill him.
18:33 On the third day, he will rise from the dead!”
18:34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them. So they didn’t know what Jesus was talking about.
18:35 A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight
Jesus was approaching Jericho. A blind man was sitting by the side of the road begging.
18:36 The blind man heard the crowd going by. He asked what was happening.
18:37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
18:38 So the blind man called out, “Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!”
18:39 Those who led the way commanded him to stop. They told him to be quiet. But he shouted even louder, “Son of David! Have mercy on me!”
18:40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When the man came near, Jesus spoke to him.
18:41 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked.
“Lord, I want to be able to see,” the blind man replied.
18:42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”
18:43 Right away he could see. He followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
