Deuteronomy 11:26 - 12:10
11:26 “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:
11:27 the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you today,
11:28 and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but rather you turn from the way that I am commanding you today to go after other gods that you have not known.
11:29 “And it will happen that when Yahweh your God has brought you to the land that you are going to, to take possession of it, then you shall pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
11:30 (Are they not beyond the Jordan, toward the west, in the land of the Canaanites living in the Jordan Valley, opposite Gilgal beside the terebinth of Moreh?)
11:31 For you are now about to cross the Jordan to go to take possession of the land that Yahweh, your God, is giving to you, and you will take possession of it and live in it,
11:32 and you must diligently observe all the rules and the regulations that I am setting before you today.”
12:1 Detailed Stipulations: Purity and Unity
“These are the rules and the regulations that you must diligently observe in the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors, has given to you to take possession of it, during all the days that you are living on the land.
12:2 You must completely demolish all of the places there where they served their gods, that is, the nations whom you are about to dispossess, on the high mountains, and on the hills and under each leafy green tree.
12:3 And you shall break down their altars, and you shall smash their stone pillars, and their Asherah poles you must burn with fire, and the images of their gods you shall hew down, and you shall blot out their names from that place.
12:4 You shall not worship Yahweh your God like this.
12:5 But only to the place that Yahweh your God will choose from all of your tribes to place his name there as his dwelling shall you seek, and there you shall go.
12:6 And you shall bring there your burnt offerings and your sacrifices and your tithes and your donations and your votive gifts and your freewill offerings and the firstling of your herd and your flock.
12:7 And you shall eat there before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice in all your endeavors, you and your family in which Yahweh your God has blessed you.
12:8 “You must not do just as we are doing here today, each according to all that is right in his eyes.
12:9 For you have not come up to now to the resting place and to the inheritance that Yahweh your God is giving to you.
12:10 But you will cross the Jordan, and you will settle in the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance, and he will give rest to you from all your enemies from all around, and you will live securely,
NIRV translation
Deuteronomy 11:26 - 12:10
11:26 Listen to me. I’m setting a blessing and a curse in front of you today.
11:27 I’m giving you the commands of the Lord your God today. You will be blessed if you obey them.
11:28 But you will be cursed if you don’t obey them. So don’t turn away from the path I’m now commanding you to take. Don’t worship other gods. You haven’t known anything about them before.
11:29 The Lord your God will bring you into the land to take it over. When he does, you must announce the blessings from Mount Gerizim. You must announce the curses from Mount Ebal.
11:30 As you know, those mountains are across the Jordan River. They are beyond the road that runs along the west side of the Jordan. They are near the large trees of Moreh. The mountains are in the territory of the Canaanites, who live in the Arabah Valley near Gilgal.
11:31 You are about to go across the Jordan River. You will enter the land and take it over. The Lord your God is giving it to you. You will take it over and live there.
11:32 When you do, make sure you obey all of the rules and laws I’m giving you today.
12:1 Worship Only Where the Lord Wants You To
Here are the rules and laws you must obey. Be careful to follow them in the land the Lord has given you to take as your own. He’s the God of your people who lived long ago. Obey these rules and laws as long as you live in the land.
12:2 You will soon drive the nations out of it. Completely destroy all of the places where they worship their gods. Destroy them on the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.
12:3 Break down their altars. Smash their sacred stones. Burn up the poles they use to worship the goddess Asherah. Cut down the statues of their gods. Wipe out the names of their gods from those places.
12:4 You must not worship the Lord your God the way those nations worship their gods.
12:5 Instead, go to the special place he will choose from among all of your tribes. He will put his Name there. That’s where you must go.
12:6 Take your burnt offerings and sacrifices to that place. Bring your special gifts and a tenth of everything you produce. Take with you what you have promised to give. Bring any other offerings you choose to give. And bring the male animals among your livestock that were born first to their mothers.
12:7 You and your families will eat at the place the Lord your God will choose. He will be with you there. You will find joy in everything you have done. That’s because he has blessed you.
12:8 You must not do as we’re doing here today. All of us are doing only what we think is right.
12:9 That’s because you haven’t yet reached the place the Lord is giving you. Your God will give you peace and rest there.
12:10 But first you will go across the Jordan River. You will settle in the land he’s giving you. It will belong to you as your share. He will give you peace and rest from all of your enemies around you. You will live in safety.

Gospel — Acts 7:54 - 7:60
LEB translation
Acts 7:54 - 7:60
7:54 Stephen’s Martyrdom
Now when they heard these things, they were infuriated in their hearts and gnashed their teeth at him.
7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
7:56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”
7:57 But crying out with a loud voice, they stopped their ears and rushed at him with one purpose.
7:58 And after they had driven him out of the city, they began to stone him, and the witnesses laid aside their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.
7:59 And they kept on stoning Stephen as he was calling out and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”
7:60 And falling to his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” And after he said this, he fell asleep.

Acts 7:54 - 7:60
7:54 Stephen Is Killed
When the Sanhedrin heard this, they became very angry. They ground their teeth at Stephen.
7:55 But he was full of the Holy Spirit. He looked up to heaven and saw God’s glory. He saw Jesus standing at God’s right hand.
7:56 “Look!” he said. “I see heaven open. The Son of Man is standing at God’s right hand.”
7:57 When the Sanhedrin heard this, they covered their ears. They yelled at the top of their voices. They all rushed at him.
7:58 They dragged him out of the city. They began to throw stones at him to kill him. The witnesses took off their coats. They placed them at the feet of a young man named Saul.
7:59 While the members of the Sanhedrin were throwing stones at Stephen, he prayed. “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit,” he said.
7:60 Then he fell on his knees. He cried out, “Lord! Don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he died.
