Genesis 28:10 - 28:22
28:10 Jacob’s Dream
Then Jacob went out from Beersheba and went to Haran.
28:11 And he arrived at a certain place and spent the night there, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of the place and put it under his head and slept at that place.
28:12 And he dreamed, and behold, a stairway was set on the earth, and its top touched the heavens. And behold, angels of God were going up and going down on it.
28:13 And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him, and he said, “I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants.
28:14 Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.
28:15 Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you.”
28:16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely Yahweh is indeed in this place and I did not know!”
28:17 Then he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is nothing else than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”
28:18 And Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a stone pillar, and poured oil on top of it.
28:19 And he called the name of that place Bethel; however, the name of the city was formerly Luz.
28:20 And Jacob made a vow saying, “If God will be with me and protect me on this way that I am going, and gives me food to eat and clothing to wear,
28:21 and if I return in peace to the house of my father, then Yahweh will become my God.
28:22 And this stone that I have set up as a pillar shall be the house of God, and of all that you give to me I will certainly give a tenth to you.”

Genesis 28:10 - 28:22
28:10 Jacob Has a Dream at Bethel
Jacob left Beersheba and started out for Haran.
28:11 He reached a certain place and stopped for the night. The sun had already set. He took one of the stones there and placed it under his head. Then he lay down to sleep.
28:12 In a dream he saw a stairway standing on the earth. Its top reached to heaven. The angels of God were going up and coming down on it.
28:13 The Lord stood above the stairway. He said, “I am the Lord. I am the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your children after you the land on which you are lying.
28:14 They will be like the dust of the earth that can’t be counted. They will spread out to the west and to the east. They will spread out to the north and to the south. All nations on earth will be blessed because of you and your children after you.
28:15 “I am with you. I will watch over you everywhere you go. And I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
28:16 Jacob woke up from his sleep. Then he thought, “The Lord is certainly in this place. And I didn’t even know it.”
28:17 Jacob was afraid. He said, “How holy this place is! This must be the house of God. This is the gate of heaven.”
28:18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head. He set it up as a pillar. And he poured oil on top of it.
28:19 He named that place Bethel. But the city used to be called Luz.
28:20 Then Jacob made a promise. He said, “May God be with me. May he watch over me on this journey I’m taking. May he give me food to eat and clothes to wear.
28:21 May he do as he has promised so that I can return safely to my father’s home. Then you, Lord, will be my God.
28:22 This stone I’ve set up as a pillar will be God’s house. And I’ll give you a tenth of everything you give me.”

Gospel — John 10:11 - 10:21
LEB translation
John 10:11 - 10:21
10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
10:12 The hired hand, who is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf approaching and abandons the sheep and runs away—and the wolf seizes them and scatters them—
10:13 because he is a hired hand and he is not concerned about the sheep.
10:14 “I am the good shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me,
10:15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.
10:16 And I have other sheep which are not from this fold. I must bring these also, and they will hear my voice, and they will become one flock—one shepherd.
10:17 Because of this the Father loves me, because I lay down my life so that I may take possession of it again.
10:18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down voluntarily. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take possession of it again. This commandment I received from my Father.”
10:19 Again there was a division among the Jews because of these words.
10:20 And many of them were saying, “He has a demon and is out of his mind! Why do you listen to him?”
10:21 Others were saying, “These are not the words of one who is possessed by a demon! A demon is not able to open the eyes of the blind, is it?”
NIRV translation
John 10:11 - 10:21
10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.
10:12 The hired man is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when the hired man sees the wolf coming, he leaves the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
10:13 The man runs away because he is a hired man. He does not care about the sheep.
10:14 “I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and my sheep know me.
10:15 They know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I give my life for the sheep.
10:16 “I have other sheep that do not belong to this sheep pen. I must bring them in too. They also will listen to my voice. Then there will be one flock and one shepherd.
10:17 “The reason my Father loves me is that I give up my life. But I will take it back again.
10:18 No one takes it from me. I give it up myself. I have the authority to give it up. And I have the authority to take it back again. I received this command from my Father.”
10:19 After Jesus spoke these words, the Jews again could not agree with each other.
10:20 Many of them said, “He is controlled by a demon. He has gone crazy! Why should we listen to him?”
10:21 But others said, “A person controlled by a demon does not say things like this. Can a demon open the eyes of someone who is blind?”
