Numbers 20:7 - 20:13
20:7 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
20:8 “Take the staff and summon the community, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give water. Bring out for them water from the rock, and let the community and their livestock drink.”
20:9 So Moses took the staff from before Yahweh just as he command him,
20:10 and Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly to the presence of the rock, and he said to them, “Please listen, you rebels; can we bring out water for you from this rock?”
20:11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice. And abundant water went out, and the community and their livestock drank.
20:12 But Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them.”
20:13 Those were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with Yahweh, and he showed himself holy among them.
NIRV translation
Numbers 20:7 - 20:13
20:7 The Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
20:8 “Get your wooden staff. You and your brother Aaron gather the people together. Then speak to that rock while everyone is watching. It will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community. Then they and their livestock can drink it.”
20:9 So Moses took the wooden staff from the tent. He did just as the Lord had commanded him.
20:10 He and Aaron gathered the people together in front of the rock. Moses said to them, “Listen, you who refuse to obey! Do we have to bring water out of this rock for you?”
20:11 Then Moses raised his arm. He hit the rock twice with his staff. Water poured out. And the people and their livestock drank it.
20:12 But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said, “You did not trust in me enough to honor me. You did not honor me as the holy God in front of the people of Israel. So you will not bring this community into the land I am giving them.”
20:13 Those were the waters of Meribah. That’s where the people of Israel argued with the Lord. And that’s where he showed them he is holy.

Gospel — Luke 19:28-48
LEB translation
Luke 19:28-48
19:28 The Triumphal Entry
And after he had said these things, he traveled on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
19:29 And it happened that when he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, to the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,
19:30 saying, ‘Go into the village in front of you, in which as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no person has ever sat, and untie it and bring it.
19:31 And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you will say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’”
19:32 So those who were sent went and found it just as he had told them.
19:33 And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’
19:34 So they said, ‘The Lord has need of it.’
19:35 And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they put Jesus on it.
19:36 And as he was going along, they were spreading out their cloaks on the road.
19:37 Now as he was drawing near by this time to the descent from the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began rejoicing to praise God with a loud voice for all the miracles that they had seen,
19:38 saying,
“Blessed is the king,
the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven
and glory in the highest!”
19:39 And some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
19:40 And he answered and said, “I tell you that if these keep silent, the stones will cry out!”
19:41 Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
And when he approached and saw the city, he wept over it,
19:42 saying, “If you had known on this day—even you—the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
19:43 For days will come upon you and your enemies will put up an embankment against you, and will surround you and press you hard from all directions.
19:44 And they will raze you to the ground, you and your children within you, and will not leave a stone upon a stone within you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
19:45 The Cleansing of the Temple
And he entered into the temple courts and began to drive out those who were selling,
19:46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘And my house will be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a cave of robbers!”
19:47 And he was teaching every day in the temple courts, and the chief priests and the scribes and the most prominent men of the people were seeking to destroy him.
19:48 And they did not find anything they could do, because all the people were paying close attention to what they were hearing from him.
NIRV translation
Luke 19:28-48
19:28 Jesus Enters Jerusalem
After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead. He was going up to Jerusalem.
19:29 He approached Bethphage and Bethany. The hill there was called the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent out two of his disciples. He said to them,
19:30 “Go to the village ahead of you. As soon as you get there, you will find a donkey’s colt tied up. No one has ever ridden it. Untie it and bring it here.
19:31 Someone may ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ If so, say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
19:32 Those who were sent ahead went and found the young donkey. It was there just as Jesus had told them.
19:33 They were untying the colt when its owners came. The owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
19:34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”
19:35 Then the disciples brought the colt to Jesus. They threw their coats on the young donkey and put Jesus on it.
19:36 As he went along, people spread their coats on the road.
19:37 Jesus came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives. There the whole crowd of disciples began to praise God with joy. In loud voices they praised him for all the miracles they had seen. They shouted,
19:38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” ()
“May there be peace and glory in the highest heaven!”
19:39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd spoke to Jesus. “Teacher,” they said, “tell your disciples to stop!”
19:40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
19:41 He approached Jerusalem. When he saw the city, he began to sob.
19:42 He said, “I wish you had known today what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes.
19:43 “The days will come when your enemies will arrive. They will build a wall of dirt up against your city. They will surround you and close you in on every side.
19:44 You didn’t recognize the time when God came to you. So your enemies will smash you to the ground. They will destroy you and all the people inside your walls. They will not leave one stone on top of another.”
19:45 Jesus Clears Out the Temple
Then Jesus entered the temple area. He began chasing out those who were selling there.
19:46 He told them, “It is written that the Lord said, ‘My house will be a house where people can pray.’ () But you have made it a ‘den for robbers.’” ()
19:47 Every day Jesus was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests and the teachers of the law were trying to kill him. So were the leaders among the people.
19:48 But they couldn’t find any way to do it. All the people were paying close attention to his words.
