Genesis 29:1 - 29:17
29:1 Jacob Flees to Haran
And Jacob continued his journey and went to the land of the Easterners.
29:2 And he looked, and behold, there was a well in the field, and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying beside it, for out of that well the flocks were watered. And the stone on the mouth of the well was large.
29:3 And when all the flocks were gathered there, they rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well. And they watered the sheep and returned the stone upon the mouth of the well to its place.
29:4 And Jacob said to them, “My brothers, where are you from?” And they said, “We are from Haran.”
29:5 And he said to them, “Do you know Laban, son of Nahor?” And they said, “We know him.”
29:6 And he said to them, “Is he well?” And they said, “He is well. Now look, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep.”
29:7 And he said, “Look, it is still broad daylight; it is not the time for the livestock to be gathered. Give water to the sheep and go, pasture them.”
29:8 And they said, “We are not able, until all the flocks are gathered. Then the stone is rolled away from the mouth of the well, and we water the sheep.”
29:9 While he was speaking with them, Rachel came with the sheep which belonged to her father, for she was pasturing them.
29:10 And it happened that, when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, Jacob drew near and rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well and watered the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother.
29:11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept.
29:12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was the relative of her father, and that he was the son of Rebekah. And she ran and told her father.
29:13 And it happened that when Laban heard the message about Jacob, the son of his sister, he ran to meet him. And he embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
29:14 And Laban said to him, “Surely you are my flesh and my bone!” And he stayed with him a month.
29:15 Jacob’s Marriages
Then Laban said to Jacob, “Just because you are my brother should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wage should be.”
29:16 Now Laban had two daughters. The name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
29:17 Now the eyes of Leah were dull, but Rachel was beautiful in form and appearance.

Genesis 29:1 - 29:17
29:1 Jacob Arrives in Paddan Aram
Then Jacob continued on his journey. He came to the land where the eastern tribes lived.
29:2 There he saw a well in the field. Three flocks of sheep were lying near it. The flocks were given water from the well. The stone over the opening of the well was large.
29:3 All of the flocks would gather there. The shepherds would roll the stone away from the well’s opening. They would give water to the sheep. Then they would put the stone back in its place over the opening of the well.
29:4 Jacob asked the shepherds, “My friends, where are you from?”
“We’re from Haran,” they replied.
29:5 He said to them, “Do you know Nahor’s grandson Laban?”
“Yes, we know him,” they answered.
29:6 Then Jacob asked them, “How is he?”
“He’s fine,” they said. “Here comes his daughter Rachel with the sheep now.”
29:7 “Look,” he said, “the sun is still high in the sky. It’s not time for the flocks to be brought together. Give water to the sheep and take them back to the grasslands.”
29:8 “We can’t,” they replied. “We have to wait until all of the flocks are brought together. The stone has to be rolled away from the opening of the well. Then we’ll give water to the sheep.”
29:9 He was still talking with them when Rachel came with her father’s sheep. It was her job to take care of the flock.
29:10 Rachel was the daughter of Laban. He was the brother of Jacob’s mother.
When Jacob saw Rachel with Laban’s sheep, he went over to the well. He rolled the stone away from the opening. He gave water to his uncle’s sheep.
29:11 Jacob kissed Rachel. Then he began to sob loudly.
29:12 He had told Rachel he was a relative of her father. He had also said he was Rebekah’s son. Rachel ran and told her father what Jacob had said.
29:13 As soon as Laban heard the news about his sister’s son Jacob, he hurried to meet him. Laban hugged Jacob and kissed him. Then he brought him to his home. There Jacob told him everything.
29:14 Then Laban said to him, “You are my own flesh and blood.”
Jacob Gets Married to Leah and Rachel
Jacob stayed with Laban for a whole month.
29:15 Then Laban said to him, “You are one of my relatives. But is that any reason for you to work for me for nothing? Tell me what your pay should be.”
29:16 Laban had two daughters. The name of the older one was Leah. And the name of the younger one was Rachel.
29:17 Leah had weak eyes. But Rachel was beautiful. She had a nice figure.

Gospel — John 10:22 - 10:30
LEB translation
John 10:22 - 10:30
10:22 Jesus at the Feast of the Dedication
Then the feast of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter,
10:23 and Jesus was walking in the temple in the Portico of Solomon.
10:24 So the Jews surrounded him and began to say to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly!”
10:25 Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe! The deeds that I do in the name of my Father, these testify about me.
10:26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep!
10:27 My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
10:28 And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish forever, and no one will seize them out of my hand.
10:29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can seize them from the Father’s hand.
10:30 The Father and I are one.”

10:22 The Jews Do Not Believe
Then came the Feast of Hanukkah at Jerusalem. It was winter.
10:23 Jesus was in the temple area walking in Solomon’s Porch.
10:24 The Jews gathered around him. They said, “How long will you keep us waiting? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
10:25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you. But you do not believe. The kinds of things I do in my Father’s name speak for me.
10:26 But you do not believe, because you are not my sheep.
10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and they follow me.
10:28 I give them eternal life, and they will never die. No one can steal them out of my hand.
10:29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than anyone. No one can steal them out of my Father’s hand.
