Leviticus 23:23 - 23:32
23:23 The Feast of Trumpets
Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
23:24 “Speak to the Israelites, saying, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you must have a rest period, a remembrance of the trumpet blast, a holy assembly.
23:25 You must not do any regular work, and you shall present an offering made by fire to Yahweh.’”
23:26 The Day of Atonement
Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
23:27 “Surely the Day of Atonement is on the tenth day of the seventh month; it shall be a holy assembly for you, and you shall deny yourselves, and you shall present an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
23:28 And you must not do any regular work on this very same day, because it is the Day of Atonement to make atonement for you before Yahweh your God.
23:29 If there is any person who does not deny himself on this very same day, then he shall be cut off from his people.
23:30 As for any person who does any work on this very same day, I will exterminate that person from the midst of his people.
23:31 You must not do any work; it is a lasting statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
23:32 It is a Sabbath of complete rest for you, and you shall deny yourselves on the ninth day of the month in the evening—from evening to evening you must observe your extraordinary Sabbath.”
NIRV translation
Leviticus 23:23 - 23:32
23:23 The Feast of Trumpets
The Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
23:24 “Say to the people of Israel, ‘On the first day of the seventh month you must have a day of rest. It must be a special service that is announced with trumpet blasts.
23:25 Do not do any regular work on that day. Instead, bring an offering that is made to me with fire.’”
23:26 The Day When Sin Is Paid For
The Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
23:27 “The tenth day of the seventh month is the day when sin is paid for. Come together for a special service. Do not eat any food. Bring an offering that is made to me with fire.
23:28 Do not do any work on that day. It is the day when sin is paid for. On that day your sin will be paid for in my sight. I am the Lord your God.
23:29 “Suppose you do eat food on that day. Then you will be cut off from your people.
23:30 I will destroy anyone among your people who does any work on that day.
23:31 You must not do any work at all. That is a law that will last for all time to come. It applies no matter where you live.
23:32 “That day is a sabbath for you. You must rest on it. You must not eat anything on that day. You must keep your sabbath from the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening.”

Gospel — Matthew 26:14-35
LEB translation
Matthew 26:14-35
26:14 Judas Arranges to Betray Jesus
Then one of the twelve, the one named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
26:15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I in turn deliver him to you?” So they set out for him thirty silver coins.
26:16 And from that time on, he began seeking a favorable opportunity in order that he could betray him.
26:17 Jesus’ Final Passover with the Disciples
Now on the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came up to Jesus, saying, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”
26:18 And he said, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I am celebrating the Passover with you with my disciples.”’
26:19 And the disciples did as Jesus directed them, and they prepared the Passover.
26:20 And when it was evening, he was reclining at table with the twelve disciples.
26:21 And while they were eating he said, “Truly I say to you, that one of you will betray me.”
26:22 And greatly distressed, each one began to say to him, “Surely I am not he, am I, Lord?”
26:23 And he answered and said, “The one who dips his hand in the bowl with me—this one will betray me.
26:24 The Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if that man had not been born.”
26:25 And Judas, the one who was betraying him, answered and said, “Surely I am not he, am I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You have said it.”
26:26 The Lord’s Supper
Now while they were eating Jesus took bread and, after giving thanks, he broke it, and giving it to the disciples, he said, “Take, eat, this is my body.”
26:27 And after taking the cup and giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you,
26:28 for this is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
26:29 But I tell you, from now on I will never drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.”
26:30 And after they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
26:31 Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me during this night, for it is written,
‘I will strike the shepherd
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
26:32 But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
26:33 But Peter answered and said to him, “If they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away!”
26:34 Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you that during this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times!”
26:35 Peter said to him, “Even if it is necessary for me to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the disciples said the same thing.
NIRV translation
Matthew 26:14-35
26:14 Judas Agrees to Hand Jesus Over
One of the Twelve went to the chief priests. His name was Judas Iscariot.
26:15 He asked, “What will you give me if I hand Jesus over to you?” So they counted out 30 silver coins for him.
26:16 From then on, Judas watched for the right time to hand Jesus over to them.
26:17 The Lord’s Supper
It was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The disciples came to Jesus. They asked, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover meal?”
26:18 He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man. Tell him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover at your house with my disciples.”’”
26:19 So the disciples did what Jesus had told them to do. They prepared the Passover meal.
26:20 When evening came, Jesus was at the table with the Twelve.
26:21 While they were eating, he said, “What I’m about to tell you is true. One of you will hand me over to my enemies.”
26:22 The disciples became very sad. One after the other, they began to say to him, “It’s not I, Lord, is it?”
26:23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will hand me over.
26:24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But how terrible it will be for the one who hands over the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
26:25 Judas was the one who was going to hand him over. He said, “It’s not I, Rabbi, is it?”
Jesus answered, “Yes. It is you.”
26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said, “Take this and eat it. This is my body.”
26:27 Then he took the cup. He gave thanks and handed it to them. He said, “All of you drink from it.
26:28 This is my blood of the new covenant. It is poured out to forgive the sins of many.
26:29 Here is what I tell you. From now on, I won’t drink wine with you again until the day I drink it with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
26:30 Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.
26:31 Jesus Says That Peter Will Fail
Jesus told them, “This very night you will all turn away because of me. It is written that the Lord said,
“‘I will strike the shepherd down.
Then the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ ()
26:32 But after I rise from the dead, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
26:33 Peter replied, “All the others may turn away because of you. But I never will.”
26:34 “What I’m about to tell you is true,” Jesus answered. “It will happen this very night. Before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”
26:35 But Peter said, “I may have to die with you. But I will never say I don’t know you.” And all the other disciples said the same thing.
