Deuteronomy 33:13 - 33:17

33:13 And of Joseph he said, “Blessed by Yahweh is his land, with the choice things of heaven, with dew, and with the deep lying down beneath,

33:14 and with the choice things of the fruits of the the sun, and with the choice things of the yield of the seasons,

33:15 and with the finest things of the ancient mountains, and with the choice things of the eternal hills,

33:16 and with the choice things of the earth and its fullness, and the favor of the one who dwelt in the bush. Let them come to the head of Joseph, and to the crown of the prince among his brothers.

33:17 As the firstborn of his ox, majesty belongs to him, and his horns are the horns of a wild ox; with them he drives people together, and they are the myriads of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.”

33:15 וּמֵרֹ֖אשׁ u.me.Rosh and/ from/ [the] top of הַרְרֵי־ ha.rei- [the] mountains of קֶ֑דֶם Ke.dem ancient time וּמִמֶּ֖גֶד u.mi.Me.ged and/ from/ [the] excellent gift of גִּבְע֥וֹת giv.'ot [the] hills of עוֹלָֽם׃ o.Lam antiquity

Acts 27:27 - 27:44

27:27 And when the fourteenth night had come, as we were being driven in the Adriatic Sea about the middle of the night, the sailors suspected they were approaching some land.

27:28 And taking soundings, they found twenty fathoms. So going on a little further and taking soundings again, they found fifteen fathoms.

27:29 And because they were afraid lest somewhere we run aground against rough places, they threw down four anchors from the stern and prayed for day to come.

27:30 And when the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship and were lowering the ship’s boat into the sea, pretending as if they were going to lay out anchors from the bow,

27:31 Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men remain with the ship, you cannot be saved!”

27:32 Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the ship’s boat and let it fall away.

27:33 And until the day was about to come, Paul was urging them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day you have waited anxiously, and you have continued without eating, having taken nothing.

27:34 Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is necessary for your preservation. For not a hair from your head will be lost.”

27:35 And after he said these things and took bread, he gave thanks to God in front of them all, and after breaking it, he began to eat.

27:36 So they all were encouraged and partook of food themselves.

27:37 (Now we were in all two hundred seventy six persons on the ship.)

27:38 And when they had eaten their fill of food, they lightened the ship by throwing the wheat into the sea.

27:39 The Shipwreck Now when day came, they did not recognize the land, but they noticed a certain bay having a beach, onto which they decided to run the ship ashore if they could.

27:40 And slipping the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time loosening the ropes of the steering oars. And hoisting the foresail to the wind that was blowing, they held course for the beach.

27:41 But falling into a place of crosscurrents, they ran the ship aground. And the bow stuck fast and stayed immovable, but the stern was being broken up by the violence.

27:42 Now the plan of the soldiers was that they would kill the prisoners lest any escape by swimming away,

27:43 but the centurion, because he wanted to save Paul, prevented them from doing what they intended, and gave orders that those who were able to swim should jump in first to get to the land,

27:44 and then the rest, some of whom floated on planks and some of whom on anything that was from the ship. And in this way all were brought safely to the land.

Acts 27:27 - 27:44

27:27 The Ship Is Destroyed On the 14th night we were still being driven across the Sea of Adria. About midnight the sailors had a feeling that they were approaching land.

27:28 They measured how deep the water was. They found that it was 120 feet deep. A short time later they measured the water again. This time it was 90 feet deep.

27:29 They were afraid we would crash against the rocks. So they dropped four anchors from the back of the ship. They prayed that daylight would come.

27:30 The sailors wanted to escape from the ship. So they let the lifeboat down into the sea. They pretended they were going to lower some anchors from the front of the ship.

27:31 But Paul spoke to the commander and the soldiers. “These men must stay with the ship,” he said. “If they don’t, you can’t be saved.”

27:32 So the soldiers cut the ropes that held the lifeboat. They let it drift away.

27:33 Just before dawn Paul tried to get them all to eat. “For the last 14 days,” he said, “you have wondered what would happen. You have gone without food. You haven’t eaten anything.

27:34 Now I am asking you to eat some food. You need it to live. Not one of you will lose a single hair from your head.”

27:35 After Paul said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God. He did this where they all could see him. Then he broke it and began to eat.

27:36 All of them were filled with hope. So they ate some food.

27:37 There were 276 of us on board.

27:38 They ate as much as they wanted. They needed to make the ship lighter. So they threw the rest of the grain into the sea.

27:39 When daylight came, they saw a bay with a sandy beach. They didn’t recognize the place. But they decided to run the ship onto the beach if they could.

27:40 So they cut the anchors loose and left them in the sea. At the same time, they untied the ropes that held the rudders. They lifted the sail at the front of the ship to the wind. Then they headed for the beach.

27:41 But the ship hit a sandbar. So the front of it got stuck and wouldn’t move. The back of the ship was broken to pieces by the pounding of the waves.

27:42 The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners. They wanted to keep them from swimming away and escaping.

27:43 But the commander wanted to save Paul’s life. So he kept the soldiers from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and swim to land.

27:44 The rest were supposed to get there on boards or other pieces of the ship. That is how everyone reached land safely.

27:27 Ὡς When δὲ then τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτη [the] fourteenth νὺξ night ἐγένετο had come διαφερομένων being driven about ἡμῶν of us ἐν in τῷ the Ἀδρίᾳ, Adriatic, κατὰ toward μέσον [the] middle τῆς of the νυκτὸς night ὑπενόουν were sensing οἱ the ναῦται sailors προσάγειν to be drawing near τινὰ some αὐτοῖς to them χώραν· land;

27:28 καὶ And βολίσαντες having taken soundings εὗρον they found ὀργυιὰς fathoms εἴκοσι, twenty, βραχὺ A little δὲ then διαστήσαντες having gone farther καὶ and πάλιν again βολίσαντες having taken soundings εὗρον they found ὀργυιὰς fathoms δεκαπέντε· fifteen;

27:29 φοβούμενοί Fearing τε then μή lest που perhaps κατὰ on τραχεῖς rocky τόπους places ἐκπέσωμεν, we may fall, ἐκ out of [the] πρύμνης stern ῥίψαντες having cast ἀγκύρας anchors τέσσαρας four ηὔχοντο they were praying for ἡμέραν day γενέσθαι. to come.

27:30 τῶν Of the δὲ then ναυτῶν sailors ζητούντων seeking φυγεῖν to flee ἐκ out of τοῦ the πλοίου ship καὶ and χαλασάντων having let down τὴν the σκάφην lifeboat εἰς into τὴν the θάλασσαν sea προφάσει under pretense ὡς as ἐκ from πρῴρης [the] bow ἀγκύρας anchors μελλόντων being about ἐκτείνειν to cast out

27:31 εἶπεν said ὁ <the> Παῦλος Paul τῷ to the ἑκατοντάρχῃ centurion καὶ and τοῖς to the στρατιώταις· soldiers; ἐὰν Only μὴ unless οὗτοι these μείνωσιν shall remain ἐν in τῷ the πλοίῳ, ship, ὑμεῖς [then] you yourselves σωθῆναι to be saved οὐ not δύνασθε. you are able.

27:32 τότε Then ἀπέκοψαν cut away οἱ the στρατιῶται soldiers τὰ the σχοινία ropes τῆς of the σκάφης lifeboat καὶ and εἴασαν allowed αὐτὴν her ἐκπεσεῖν.¶ to fall away.

27:34 διὸ Therefore παρακαλῶ I exhort ὑμᾶς you μεταλαβεῖν to partake τροφῆς· of food; τοῦτο this γὰρ indeed πρὸς for τῆς <the> ὑμετέρας of you σωτηρίας preservation ὑπάρχει· is; οὐδενὸς not [one] γὰρ for ὑμῶν of you θρὶξ a hair ἀπὸ of τῆς the κεφαλῆς head ἀπολεῖται.¶ will perish.

27:35 Εἴπας Having said δὲ now ταῦτα these things καὶ and λαβὼν having taken ἄρτον bread εὐχαρίστησεν he gave thanks τῷ <the> θεῷ to God ἐνώπιον before πάντων, all, καὶ and κλάσας having broken [it] ἤρξατο he began ἐσθίειν. to eat.

27:36 εὔθυμοι Encouraged δὲ then γενόμενοι having been πάντες all καὶ also αὐτοὶ themselves προσελάβοντο they took τροφῆς· food;

27:37 ἤμεθα we were δὲ then αἱ the πᾶσαι altogether ψυχαὶ souls ἐν in τῷ the πλοίῳ boat διακόσιαι two hundred ἑβδομήκοντα seventy ἕξ. six.

27:43 ὁ <the> δὲ But ἑκατοντάρχης the centurion βουλόμενος desiring διασῶσαι to save τὸν <the> Παῦλον Paul ἐκώλυσεν hindered αὐτοὺς them τοῦ of the βουλήματος, purpose, ἐκέλευσέν he commanded τε then τοὺς those δυναμένους being able κολυμβᾶν to swim ἀπορίψαντας having cast [themselves] off πρώτους first ἐπὶ on τὴν the γῆν land ἐξιέναι, to go out,
