3:22 And Yahweh God said, “Look—the man has become as one of us, to know good and evil. What if he stretches out his hand and takes also from the tree of life and eats, and lives forever?”
3:23 And Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
3:24 So he drove the man out, and placed cherubim east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming, turning sword to guard the way to the tree of life.
4:1 Cain and Abel
Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain. And she said, “I have given birth to a man with the help of Yahweh.”
4:2 Then she bore his brother Abel. And Abel became a keeper of sheep, and Cain became a tiller of the ground.
4:3 And in the course of time Cain brought an offering from the fruit of the ground to Yahweh,
4:4 and Abel also brought an offering from the choicest firstlings of his flock. And Yahweh looked with favor to Abel and to his offering,
4:5 but to Cain and to his offering he did not look with favor. And Cain became very angry, and his face fell.
4:6 And Yahweh said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why is your face fallen?
4:7 If you do well will I not accept you? But if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. And its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
4:8 Then Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let us go out into the field.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.
4:9 Then Yahweh said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?”
4:10 And he said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground.
4:11 So now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive the blood of your brother from your hand.
4:12 When you till the ground it shall no longer yield its strength to you. You shall be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth.”
4:13 And Cain said to Yahweh, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.
4:14 Look, you have driven me out today from the face of the ground, and from your face I must hide. I will be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth, and it will happen that whoever finds me will kill me.”
4:15 Then Yahweh said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain will be avenged sevenfold.” Then Yahweh put a sign on Cain so that whoever found him would not kill him.
4:16 And Cain went out from the presence of Yahweh, and he settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
4:17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. And when he built a city he named the city after his son, Enoch.
4:18 And to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech.

Gospel — John 1:35 - 1:51
LEB translation
1:35 Two of John’s Disciples Follow Jesus
On the next day again John was standing there, and two of his disciples,
1:36 and looking at Jesus as he was walking by, he said, “Look! The Lamb of God!”
1:37 And the two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.
1:38 And Jesus, turning around and seeing them following him, said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means when translated “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
1:39 He said to them, “Come and you will see!” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day (it was about the tenth hour).
1:40 Andrew Declares Jesus to be the Messiah
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed him.
1:41 This one first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which is translated “Christ”).
1:42 He brought him to Jesus. Looking at him, Jesus said, “You are Simon the son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which is interpreted “Peter”).
1:43 Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael
On the next day he wanted to depart for Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me!”
1:44 (Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter.)
1:45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found the one whom Moses wrote about in the law, and the prophets wrote about—Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth!”
1:46 And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see!”
1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him, “Look! A true Israelite in whom is no deceit!”
1:48 Nathanael said to him, “From where do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
1:49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the king of Israel!”
1:50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these!”
1:51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly I say to all of you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”
