Numbers 23:13 - 23:26
23:13 Then Balak said, “Please walk with me to another place where you will see them, but you will only see part of them and will not see all of them; and curse them for me from there.”
23:14 So he took him to the field of Zophim to the top of Pisgah, and he built seven altars, and he offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
23:15 Balaam said to Balak, “Station yourself here at the burnt offering while I myself meet with Yahweh there.”
23:16 Then Yahweh met with Balaam, and he put a word in his mouth, and he said, “Return to Balak, and you must speak thus.”
23:17 He came to him, and behold, he was standing at his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, “What has Yahweh spoken?”
23:18 Then he uttered his oracle, and said,
“Stand up, Balak, and hear;
listen to me, son of Zippor!
23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie,
nor a son of humankind,
that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
And has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
23:20 Behold, I have received a command to bless;
when he has blessed, I cannot cause it to return.
23:21 He has no regard for evil in Jacob,
and he does not see trouble in Israel;
Yahweh his God is with him,
and a shout of a king is among them.
23:22 God, who brings them out from Egypt,
is like the strength of a wild ox for them.
23:23 Because there is no sorcery against Jacob,
and there is no divination against Israel.
Now it will be said to Jacob and Israel,
what God has done!
23:24 Look! the people will rise like the lion;
he raises himself and will not lie down
until he eats the prey
and drinks the blood of the slain.”
23:25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Do not curse them at all, nor bless them at all!”
23:26 But Balaam answered and said to Balak, “Did I not speak to you, saying, ‘Whatever Yahweh speaks I will do’?”
NIRV translation
Numbers 23:13 - 23:26
23:13 Balaam’s Second Message From God
Then Balak said to Balaam, “Come with me to another place. You can see the people of Israel from there. You will see only some of them. You won’t see all of them. From there, put a curse on them for me.”
23:14 So Balak took Balaam to the field of Zophim. It was on the highest slopes of Pisgah. There he built seven altars. He offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
23:15 Balaam said to Balak, “Stay here beside your offering. I’ll meet with the Lord over there.”
23:16 The Lord met with Balaam. He put a message in Balaam’s mouth. The Lord said, “Go back to Balak. Give him my message.”
23:17 So he went to him. He found him standing beside his offering. The princes of Moab were with him. Balak asked him, “What did the Lord say?”
23:18 Then Balaam spoke the message he had received from God. He said,
“Balak, rise up and listen.
Son of Zippor, hear me.
23:19 God isn’t a mere man. He can’t lie.
He isn’t a human being. He doesn’t change his mind.
He speaks, and then he acts.
He makes a promise, and then he keeps it.
23:20 He has commanded me to bless Israel.
He has given them his blessing. And I can’t change it.
23:21 “I don’t see any trouble coming on the people of Jacob.
I don’t see any suffering in Israel.
The Lord their God is with them.
The shout of the King is among them.
23:22 God brought them out of Egypt.
They are as strong as a wild ox.
23:23 There isn’t any magic that can hurt the people of Jacob.
No one can use magic words to harm Israel.
Here is what will be said about the people of Jacob.
Here is what will be said about Israel.
People will say, ‘See what God has done!’
23:24 The people of Israel are going to wake up like a female lion.
They are going to get up like a male lion.
They are like a lion that won’t rest
until it eats what it has caught.
They are like a lion that won’t rest
until it drinks the blood of what it has killed.”
23:25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Don’t put a curse on them at all! And don’t give them a blessing at all!”
23:26 Balaam answered, “Didn’t I tell you that I have to do only what the Lord says?”

Gospel — Luke 21:29-38
LEB translation
Luke 21:29-38
21:29 The Parable of the Fig Tree
And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees.
21:30 When they put out foliage, now you see for yourselves and know that by this time the summer is near.
21:31 So also you, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.
21:32 Truly I say to you that this generation will never pass away until all things take place!
21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
21:34 Be Alert
“But take care for yourselves, lest your hearts are weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of daily life, and that day come upon you suddenly
21:35 like a trap. For it will come upon all who reside on the face of the whole earth.
21:36 But be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
21:37 So throughout the days he was teaching in the temple courts, and throughout the nights he was going out and spending the night on the hill that is called the Mount of Olives.
21:38 And all the people were getting up very early in the morning to come to him in the temple courts to listen to him.
NIRV translation
Luke 21:29-38
21:29 Jesus told them a story. “Look at the fig tree and all the trees,” he said.
21:30 “When you see leaves appear on the branches, you know that summer is near.
21:31 In the same way, when you see these things happening, you will know that God’s kingdom is near.
21:32 “What I’m about to tell you is true. The people living at that time will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away. But my words will never pass away.
21:34 “Be careful. If you aren’t, your hearts will be loaded down with wasteful living, drunkenness and the worries of life. Then the day the Son of Man returns will close on you like a trap. You will not be expecting it.
21:35 That day will come upon every person who lives on the whole earth.
21:36 “Always keep watching. Pray that you will be able to escape all that is about to happen. Also, pray that you will not be judged guilty when the Son of Man comes.”
21:37 Each day Jesus taught at the temple. And each evening he went to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives.
21:38 All the people came to the temple early in the morning. They wanted to hear Jesus speak.
