Leviticus 2:7 - 2:16
2:7 “‘If your offering is a grain offering prepared in a cooking pan, it must be with finely milled flour in oil.
2:8 And you shall bring the grain offering that is made from these things to Yahweh, and the offerer shall bring it to the priest, and he shall bring it to the altar.
2:9 And the priest shall take away from the grain offering its token portion, and he shall turn it into smoke on the altar as an offering made by fire, as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.
2:10 And the remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and to his sons—it is a most holy thing from the offerings made by fire for Yahweh.
2:11 “‘Every grain offering you bring to Yahweh must not be made of yeasted food, because you must not turn into smoke any yeast or any honey from an offering made by fire for Yahweh.
2:12 As an offering of the choicest portion, you may bring them to Yahweh, but they must not be offered on the altar as an appeasing fragrance.
2:13 Also all of your grain offerings you must season with salt; you must not omit the salt of your God’s covenant from your offering.
2:14 “‘And if you bring to Yahweh a grain offering of firstfruits, you must bring an ear of new grain roasted by fire, coarsely crushed ripe grain, as the grain offering of your firstfruits.
2:15 And you shall put oil on it and place frankincense on it; it is a grain offering.
2:16 The priest shall turn into smoke its token portion from its coarsely crushed grain together with all of its frankincense—it is an offering made by fire for Yahweh.’”
NIRV translation
Leviticus 2:7 - 2:16
2:7 If your grain offering is cooked in a pan, make it out of fine flour and oil.
2:8 “‘Bring to the Lord your grain offering that is made out of all of those things. Give it to the priest. He must take it to the altar.
2:9 He must take out the part of the grain offering that reminds you that all good things come from the Lord. He must burn it on the altar. It is an offering that is made with fire. It gives a smell that is pleasant to the Lord.
2:10 “‘The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and the priests who are in his family line. It is a very holy part of the offerings that are made to the Lord with fire.
2:11 “‘Every grain offering you bring to the Lord must be made without yeast. You must not burn any yeast or honey in an offering that is made to the Lord with fire.
2:12 “‘You can bring them to the Lord as an offering of the first share of the food you gather or produce. But they must not be offered on the altar as a pleasant smell.
2:13 “‘Put salt on all of your grain offerings. Salt stands for the lasting covenant between you and your God. So do not leave it out of your grain offerings. Add it to all of your offerings.
2:14 “‘Suppose you bring to the Lord a grain offering of the first share of your food. Then offer crushed heads of your first grain that have been cooked in fire.
2:15 Put olive oil and incense on it. It is a grain offering.
2:16 “‘The priest must burn part of the crushed grain and the oil. It will remind you that all good things come from the Lord. The priest must burn it together with all of the incense. It is an offering that is made to the Lord with fire.

Gospel — Matthew 3:1-3:17
LEB translation
Matthew 3:1-3:17
3:1 John the Baptist Begins His Ministry
Now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the Judean wilderness
3:2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near!”
3:3 For this is the one who was spoken about by the prophet Isaiah, saying,
“The voice of one crying out in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.’”
3:4 Now John himself had his clothing made from camel’s hair and a belt made of leather around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
3:5 Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan were going out to him,
3:6 and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.
3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
3:8 Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!
3:9 And do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones!
3:10 Already now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
3:11 I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is more powerful than I am, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
3:12 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
3:13 The Baptism of Jesus
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John in order to be baptized by him.
3:14 But John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
3:15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it now, for in this way it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted him.
3:16 Now after he was baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water, and behold, the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming upon him.
3:17 And behold, there was a voice from heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
NIRV translation
Matthew 3:1-3:17
3:1 John the Baptist Prepares the Way
In those days John the Baptist came and preached in the Desert of Judea.
3:2 He said, “Turn away from your sins! The kingdom of heaven is near.”
3:3 John is the one the prophet Isaiah had spoken about. He had said,
“A messenger is calling out in the desert,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord.
Make straight paths for him.’” ()
3:4 John’s clothes were made out of camel’s hair. He had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
3:5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all of Judea. They also came from the whole area around the Jordan River.
3:6 When they admitted they had sinned, John baptized them in the Jordan.
3:7 John saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing. He said to them, “You are like a nest of poisonous snakes! Who warned you to escape the coming of God’s anger?
3:8 Produce fruit that shows you have turned away from your sins.
3:9 Don’t think you can say to yourselves, ‘Abraham is our father.’ I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.
3:10 The ax is already lying at the roots of the trees. All the trees that don’t produce good fruit will be cut down. They will be thrown into the fire.
3:11 “I baptize you with water, calling you to turn away from your sins. But after me, one will come who is more powerful than I am. And I’m not fit to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
3:12 His pitchfork is in his hand to clear the straw from his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the storeroom. But he will burn up the husks with fire that can’t be put out.”
3:13 Jesus Is Baptized
Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River. He wanted to be baptized by John.
3:14 But John tried to stop him. He told Jesus, “I need to be baptized by you. So why do you come to me?”
3:15 Jesus replied, “Let it be this way for now. It is right for us to do this. It carries out God’s holy plan.” Then John agreed.
3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened. Jesus saw the Spirit of God coming down on him like a dove.
3:17 A voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, and I love him. I am very pleased with him.”
