Leviticus 4:1 - 4:26
4:1 Laws for Sin Offerings
Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
4:2 “Speak to the Israelites, saying, ‘If a person sins by an unintentional wrong from any of Yahweh’s commands that should not be violated, and he violates any of them—
4:3 if the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then, concerning the sin that he has committed, he shall bring a young bull without defect for Yahweh as a sin offering.
4:4 He shall bring the bull to the tent of assembly’s entrance before Yahweh, place his hand on the bull’s head, and slaughter the bull before Yahweh.
4:5 The anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and shall bring it to the tent of assembly,
4:6 and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and shall spatter some of the blood seven times before Yahweh in front of the sanctuary’s curtain.
4:7 The priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense before Yahweh, which is in the tent of assembly, and all the rest of the bull’s blood he must pour out on the base of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the entrance of the tent of assembly.
4:8 “‘He must remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering: the fat that covers the inner parts and all of the fat that is on the inner parts,
4:9 the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and the liver’s lobe that he must remove in addition to the kidneys—
4:10 just as it is removed from the ox of the fellowship offerings’ sacrifice—and the priest shall turn them into smoke on the altar of the burnt offering.
4:11 But the bull’s skin and its meat, in addition to its head, its lower leg bones, its inner parts, and its offal—
4:12 he shall carry all of the bull outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place, to the fatty ashes’ dump, and he shall burn it on wood in the fire; it must be burned up on the fatty ashes’ dump.
4:13 “‘If Israel’s whole assembly did wrong unintentionally and the matter was concealed from the assembly’s eyes, and they acted against any of Yahweh’s commands that should not be violated, so that they incur guilt,
4:14 when the sin that they have committed against that command becomes known, the assembly shall present a young bull as a sin offering, and they shall bring it before the tent of assembly.
4:15 And the elders of the community shall place their hands on the bull’s head before Yahweh, and he shall slaughter the bull before Yahweh.
4:16 Then the anointed priest shall bring some of the bull’s blood to the tent of assembly,
4:17 and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and shall spatter it seven times before Yahweh in front of the curtain.
4:18 He must put some of the blood on the altar’s horns before Yahweh in the tent of assembly, and all the rest of the blood he must pour out on the base of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the tent of assembly’s entrance.
4:19 He must remove all its fat from it, and he shall turn it into smoke on the altar.
4:20 He shall do to the bull just as he did to the sin offering’s bull, so he must do to it. The priest shall make atonement for them, and they will be forgiven.
4:21 He shall bring the rest of the bull outside the camp, and he shall burn it just as he burned the first bull; it is the sin offering for the assembly.
4:22 “‘When a leader sins and commits an unintentional wrong against any of the commands of Yahweh his God that should not be violated, so that he incurs guilt,
4:23 or his sin he has committed is made known to him, he shall bring a male goat without defect as his offering.
4:24 He shall place his hand on the he-goat’s head and slaughter it in the place where he slaughtered the burnt offering before Yahweh; it is a sin offering.
4:25 The priest shall take some of the sin offering’s blood with his finger, and he shall put it on the horns of the altar of the burnt offering, and he must pour out the rest of its blood on the base of the altar of the burnt offering.
4:26 He must turn all of its fat into smoke on the altar like the fat of the fellowship offerings’ sacrifice, and the priest shall make atonement for him because of his sin, and he will be forgiven.
NIRV translation
Leviticus 4:1 - 4:26
4:1 Rules for Sin Offerings
The Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
4:2 “Speak to the people of Israel. Tell them, ‘Suppose someone sins without meaning to. And that person does something the Lord commands us not to do.
4:3 “‘Suppose it is the anointed priest who sins. And suppose he brings guilt on the people. Then he must bring a young bull to the Lord. It must not have any flaws. He must bring it as a sin offering for the sin he has committed.
4:4 He must bring the bull to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting in the sight of the Lord. He must place his hand on its head. He must kill it there in the sight of the Lord.
4:5 “‘Then the priest must take some of the bull’s blood. He must carry it into the Tent of Meeting.
4:6 He must dip his finger into the blood. He must sprinkle some of it seven times in the sight of the Lord. He must do it in front of the curtain of the Most Holy Room.
4:7 “‘Then the priest must put some of the blood on the horns that stick out from the upper four corners of the altar for burning incense. The incense has a sweet smell. The altar stands in front of the Lord in the Tent of Meeting. The priest must pour out the rest of the bull’s blood at the bottom of the altar for burnt offerings. That altar stands at the entrance to the tent.
4:8 “‘He must remove all of the fat from the bull for the sin offering. It includes the fat that covers the inside parts or is connected to them.
4:9 It includes both kidneys with the fat on them next to the lower back muscles. It also includes the covering of the liver. He must remove all of it together with the kidneys.
4:10 He must remove it in the same way the fat is removed from an ox that is sacrificed as a friendship offering. Then the priest must burn all of it on the altar for burnt offerings.
4:11 “‘But the bull’s hide must be taken away. So must all of its meat. So must its head and legs. And so must its inside parts and guts.
4:12 In other words, all of the rest of the bull must be taken away. The priest must take it outside the camp. He must take it to a place that is “clean.” He must take it to the place where the ashes are thrown. There he must burn it in a wood fire on a pile of ashes.
4:13 “‘Or suppose the whole community of Israel sins without meaning to. They do something the Lord commands us not to do. Even if they are not aware of what they have done, they are guilty.
4:14 “‘But suppose they become aware of the sin they have committed. Then they must bring a young bull as a sin offering. They must offer it in front of the Tent of Meeting.
4:15 The elders of the community must place their hands on the bull’s head in the sight of the Lord. The bull must be killed in the sight of the Lord.
4:16 “‘Then the anointed priest must take some of the bull’s blood into the Tent of Meeting.
4:17 He must dip his finger into the blood. He must sprinkle it seven times in the sight of the Lord. He must do it in front of the curtain.
4:18 He must put some of the blood on the horns that stick out from the upper four corners of the altar. The altar stands in front of the Lord in the Tent of Meeting. The priest must pour out the rest of the blood at the bottom of the altar for burnt offerings. That altar stands at the entrance to the tent.
4:19 “‘He must remove all of the fat from the bull. He must burn it on the altar.
4:20 He must do the same thing with that bull as he did with the bull for the sin offering. When he does, he will pay for the sin of the people. And they will be forgiven.
4:21 “‘Then he must take the bull outside the camp. He must burn it just as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the whole community.
4:22 “‘Or suppose a leader sins without meaning to. If he disobeys any of the commands of the Lord his God, he is guilty.
4:23 “‘But suppose he is made aware of the sin he has committed. Then he must bring an offering. It must be a male goat. It must not have any flaws.
4:24 He must place his hand on the goat’s head. He must kill it. He must do it at the place where the animals for burnt offerings are killed in the sight of the Lord. His offering is a sin offering.
4:25 “‘Then the priest must dip his finger into some of the blood of the sin offering. He must put it on the horns that stick out from the upper four corners of the altar for burnt offerings. He must pour out the rest of the blood at the bottom of the altar.
4:26 “‘He must burn all of the fat on the altar. He must burn it in the same way he burned the fat of the friendship offering. When he does, he will pay for the sin of the leader. And the leader will be forgiven.

Gospel — Matthew 5:1-12
LEB translation
Matthew 5:1-12
5:1 The Sermon on the Mount: The Beatitudes
Now when he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain and after he sat down, his disciples approached him.
5:2 And opening his mouth he began to teach them, saying,
5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
because theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:4 Blessed are the ones who mourn,
because they will be comforted.
5:5 Blessed are the meek,
because they will inherit the earth.
5:6 Blessed are the ones who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
because they will be satisfied.
5:7 Blessed are the merciful,
because they will be shown mercy.
5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
because they will see God.
5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
because they will be called sons of God.
5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
because theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:11 Blessed are you
when they insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things against you, lying on account of me.
5:12 Rejoice and be glad, because your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.
NIRV translation
Matthew 5:1-12
5:1 Jesus Gives Blessings
Jesus saw the crowds. So he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him.
5:2 Then he began to teach them.
He said,
5:3 “Blessed are those who are spiritually needy.
The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
5:4 Blessed are those who are sad.
They will be comforted.
5:5 Blessed are those who are free of pride.
They will be given the earth.
5:6 Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right.
They will be filled.
5:7 Blessed are those who show mercy.
They will be shown mercy.
5:8 Blessed are those whose hearts are pure.
They will see God.
5:9 Blessed are those who make peace.
They will be called sons of God.
5:10 Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right.
The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
5:11 “Blessed are you when people make fun of you and hurt you because of me. You are also blessed when they tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of me.
5:12 Be joyful and glad. Your reward in heaven is great. In the same way, people hurt the prophets who lived long ago.
