Genesis 9:18 - 10:32
9:18 Noah’s Descendants
Now the sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)
9:19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated.
9:20 And Noah began to be a man of the ground, and he planted a vineyard.
9:21 And he drank some of the wine and became drunk, and he exposed himself in the midst of his tent.
9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and he told his two brothers outside.
9:23 Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, and the two of them put it on their shoulders and, walking backward, they covered the nakedness of their father. And their faces were turned backward, so that they did not see the nakedness of their father.
9:24 Then Noah awoke from his drunkenness, and he knew what his youngest son had done to him.
9:25 And he said,
“Cursed be Canaan,
a slave of slaves he shall be to his brothers.”
9:26 Then he said,
“Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Shem,
and let Canaan be a slave to them.
9:27 May God make space for Japheth,
and let him dwell in the tents of Shem,
and let Canaan be a slave for him.”
9:28 And Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood.
9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died.
10:1 The Descendants of the Sons of Noah
These are the generations of the sons of Noah—Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Children were born to them after the flood.
10:2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
10:3 And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
10:4 And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
10:5 From these the coastland peoples spread out through their lands, each according to his own language by their own families, in their nations.
10:6 And the sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.
10:7 And the sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
10:8 And Cush fathered Nimrod. He was the first on earth to be a mighty warrior.
10:9 He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. Therefore it was said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before Yahweh.”
10:10 Now, the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
10:11 From that land he went out to Assyria, and he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
10:12 Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city.
10:13 And Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,
10:14 Pathrusim, and Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim.
10:15 Canaan fathered Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth,
10:16 and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
10:17 the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
10:18 the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad.
10:19 And the territory of the Canaanites was from Sidon in the direction of Gerar as far as Gaza, and in the direction of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
10:20 These are the descendants of Ham, according to their families and their languages, in their lands, and in their nations.
10:21 And to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the older brother of Japheth, children were also born.
10:22 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
10:23 And the sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
10:24 And Arphaxad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.
10:25 And to Eber two sons were born. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and the name of his brother was Joktan.
10:26 And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
10:27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
10:28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
10:29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.
10:30 And their dwelling place extended from Mesha in the direction of Sephar to the hill country of the east.
10:31 These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, and according to their nations.
10:32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations and in their nations. And from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood.
NIRV translation
Genesis 9:18 - 10:32
9:18 The Sons of Noah
The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan.
9:19 The people who were scattered over the earth came from Noah’s three sons.
9:20 Noah was a man who worked the ground. He decided to plant a vineyard.
9:21 He drank some of its wine. It made him drunk. Then he lay down inside his tent without any clothes on.
9:22 Ham saw his father’s naked body. Ham was the father of Canaan. Ham went outside and told his two brothers.
9:23 But Shem and Japheth took a piece of clothing. They laid it across their shoulders. Then they walked backward into the tent. They covered their father’s body. They turned their faces away. They didn’t want to see their father’s naked body.
9:24 Then Noah woke up from his sleep that was caused by the wine. He found out what his youngest son had done to him.
9:25 He said,
“May a curse be put on Canaan.
He will be the lowest of slaves to his brothers.”
9:26 Noah also said,
“May the Lord, the God of Shem, be blessed.
May Canaan be the slave of Shem.
9:27 May God add land to Japheth’s territory.
May Japheth live in the tents of Shem.
And may Canaan be their slave.”
9:28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years.
9:29 Noah lived a total of 950 years. Then he died.
10:1 A List of Nations
Here is the story of Shem, Ham and Japheth. They were Noah’s sons. After the flood, they too had sons.
10:2 The Sons of Japheth
The sons of Japheth were
Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras.
10:3 The sons of Gomer were
Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.
10:4 The sons of Javan were
Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim and the Rodanites.
10:5 The people who lived by the sea came from all of them. Their tribes and nations spread out into their own territories. Each tribe and nation had its own language.
10:6 The Sons of Ham
The sons of Ham were
Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.
10:7 The sons of Cush were
Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteca.
The sons of Raamah were
Sheba and Dedan.
10:8 Cush was the father of Nimrod. Nimrod grew up to be a mighty hero on the earth.
10:9 He was a mighty hunter in the Lord’s eyes. That’s why people sometimes compare others with Nimrod. They say, “They are like Nimrod, who is a mighty hunter in the Lord’s eyes.”
10:10 At first Nimrod’s kingdom was made up of Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh. Those cities were in the land of Babylonia.
10:11 From that land he went to Assyria. There he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir and Calah.
10:12 He also built Resen. It is between Nineveh and Calah. Nineveh is the great city.
10:13 Egypt was the father of
the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites and Naphtuhites.
10:14 He was also the father of the Pathrusites, Casluhites and Caphtorites. The Philistines came from the Casluhites.
10:15 Canaan was the father of
Sidon. Sidon was his oldest son. Canaan was also the father of the Hittites,
10:16 Jebusites, Amorites and Girgashites.
10:17 And he was the father of the Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,
10:18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.
Later the Canaanite tribes scattered.
10:19 The borders of Canaan went from Sidon toward Gerar all the way to Gaza. Then they went toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim all the way to Lasha.
10:20 Those are the sons of Ham. They are listed by their tribes and languages in their territories and nations.
10:21 The Sons of Shem
Sons were also born to Shem. Shem was Japheth’s younger brother. All of the sons of Eber came from Shem.
10:22 The sons of Shem were
Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.
10:23 The sons of Aram were
Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech.
10:24 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah.
Shelah was the father of Eber.
10:25 Eber was the father of two sons.
One was named Peleg. That’s because the earth was divided up in his time. His brother was named Joktan.
10:26 Joktan was the father of
Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth and Jerah.
10:27 He was also the father of Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
10:28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
10:29 Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All of them were sons of Joktan.
10:30 The area where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar. It was in the eastern hill country.
10:31 Those are the sons of Shem. They are listed by their tribes and languages in their territories and nations.
10:32 Those are the tribes of Noah’s sons. They are listed by their family lines within their nations. From them the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.

Gospel — John 4:27 - 4:38
LEB translation
John 4:27 - 4:38
4:27 The Disciples and the Harvest
And at this point his disciples came, and they were astonished that he was speaking with a woman. However, no one said, “What do you seek?” or “Why are you speaking with her?”
4:28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into the town and said to the people,
4:29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I have ever done! Perhaps this one is the Christ?”
4:30 They went out from the town and were coming to him.
4:31 In the meanwhile the disciples were asking him, saying, “Rabbi, eat something!”
4:32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
4:33 So the disciples began to say to one another, “No one brought him anything to eat, did they?”
4:34 Jesus said to them, “My food is that I do the will of the one who sent me and complete his work.
4:35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months and the harvest comes’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, that they are white for harvest already.
4:36 The one who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit for eternal life, in order that the one who sows and the one who reaps can rejoice together.
4:37 For in this instance the saying is true, ‘It is one who sows and another who reaps.’
4:38 I sent you to reap what you did not work for; others have worked, and you have entered into their work.”
NIRV translation
John 4:27 - 4:38
4:27 The Disciples Join Jesus Again
Just then Jesus’ disciples returned. They were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want from her?” No one asked, “Why are you talking with her?”
4:28 The woman left her water jar and went back to the town. She said to the people,
4:29 “Come. See a man who told me everything I’ve ever done. Could this be the Christ?”
4:30 The people came out of the town and made their way toward Jesus.
4:31 His disciples were saying to him, “Rabbi, eat something!”
4:32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”
4:33 Then his disciples asked each other, “Did someone bring him food?”
4:34 Jesus said, “My food is to do what my Father sent me to do. My food is to finish his work.
4:35 “You say, ‘Four months more, and then it will be harvest time.’ But I tell you, open your eyes! Look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest right now.
4:36 Those who gather the crop are already getting paid. They are already harvesting the crop for eternal life. So those who plant and those who gather can now be glad together.
4:37 “Here is a true saying. ‘One plants and another gathers.’
4:38 I sent you to gather what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work. You have gathered the benefits of their work.”
